The dip stick tube is pressed into the engine block. Put a bolt into the top of the tube so that the body of the bolt goes into the tube and the bolt head rests on the tube (so it does not fall down the tube). Use a wrench (such as a Vise grip) to hold onto the tube at the bolt and gently work it back and forth, being sure not to deform the tube. Remove the tube and old dip stick. Replace the tube by forcing it back into the eng. block. Replace the dip stick - done :)! Some dip stick tubes have a gasket at the engine - others just **** up to a shoulder that is built into the tube. Let me know if this works. Thanks.

MOST TIMES YOU WILL HAVE TO TAKE THE WHOLE DIP STICK TUBE OUT. USUALLY IT IS ONE BOLT AND THEN PUSHES INTO THE BLOCK.

would a magnet and/or a very long pair of tweezers work?

The problem with a magnet is that the tube is also magnetic and it would be difficult to have the magnet apply the forces to the end of the broken dip stick and not the tube. That is if you could get the magnet down the tube far enough to reach the dip stick. The twesszers would be difficult to sweeze, again - if you could reach the dip stick. There is always the chance you could drop the tweezers as well. I would not discourage you from trying either of these methods, but I would not be confident of their success.

How do i (a girl) add transmission repair fluid to '97 Automatic Ford Escort?

Open the hood and look for either a red handle for a dipstick or one marked trans. Remove the dipstick and ,with a funnel, pour the fluid into the tube the dipstick came out of.

My oil light goes on when the car is idling but not when moving. The oil and filter were just changed. This is a 2000 ford escort

did you have this trouble before you had your vehicle serviced. If not you should check your oil level and make sure it is up to the mark on the dipstick. If your oil level is fine it can be one of two things ,either a defective oil pressure switch or it could be low oil pressure.

I just bought 1998 Ford Escort SE and can't find the oil dipstick. Exactly where is it, and is there perhaps a picture or schematic of one so I know where I may have to install one? Thanks much.

The engine oil dipstick is located on the driver's side of the engine. Remove it and wipe the oil off the dipstick and then thread it back into the tube. Remove the dipstick and read the level. It should be between the MAX and MIN lines. Add oil if necessary. The coolant level is checked by visually inspecting the level in the reservoir while the engine is cold. It should be around the "Full Cold" line. Take a look at the coolant because oil mixed in with the antifreeze could signify a leaking head gasket. The brake master cylinder will be located on the driver's side of the firewall behind the strut tower. Pull the lid off and check the fluid level inside. To check the automatic transmission fluid level, first allow the engine to warm up to normal operating temperature, then check the fluid level on the dipstick. ------------

Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

Where is the transmission dip stick, or how can i check the fluid level

if this car is AUTO the dipstick will be on the same side as the gearbox underneath the hood. clearly marked with a red (i think) coloured plastic handle you check the level with the engine running and in park. if MANUAL gearbox then look down the front of the gearbox and about half way up theres a hexagon drive level plug - 8mm allen key hex i think - remove this and fill till oil runs out with engine off.

4 quarts for the 1.9l motor.

Dip stick is to easy to get.

Even if you use one from a different car.

Do a drain and refill, add 4 quarts mark new dip stick.

Hope this tip helps.

You need a new PCV valve real quick! That is the abbreviation for Positive Crankcase Ventilation.  This is the device intended to let your engine sniff its own rear end.
It provides a path for pressure that naturally (but only moderately) develops in the oil paths of the engine to lose that into the intake by using some of the vacuum available there so it is burned instead of making the world greasy with fumes.
Since engines should be tight except for that path, if that valve is no longer working it will find the path of least resistance; your dipstick hole.
Even if your rings are shot, the valve should still handle the added pressure without puking out of the dipstick hole.
