SOURCE: 1996 jeep cherokee extreem shaking while braking
just as a question but does this shaking also happen occasionally after hitting a bad bump? The heavy shaking in the cherokees is asctually a common issue known as the "death wobbble". It is actually one or more of your control arms coupled probably with a bad CV or maybe even a seperated belt in your tire. My 93 had the same issue. After replacing everything that had to do with braking I discovered that it did it not just as braking but also when I hit a bump doing more than 30mph. I would recommend taking it to a 5* shop. The best one in town and let them look at it. It will cost you a litlle more but if it is the "Wobble" you'll thank them for it.
