04 GMC Envoy XUV midgate window fell won't come back up; motor runs ,window won't move

Relay maybe .Doesn't look like a relay is involved for window . Looking at a wiring diagram an using a volt meter to test electrical circuit would be the way to find the problem . Do you know how to test automotive electrical circuits ? How to read a wiring diagram ?
Midgate Components
The midgate consists of the following components:
• Midgate window switch
• Midgate latch release switch
• Midgate window regulator
• Left midgate latch
• Right midgate latch
• Midgate latch relay
• Midgate 25-amp window regulator circuit breaker
• Midgate 15-amp latch relay circuit breaker

Midgate Window Control
The midgate window is controlled by the following:
• Midgate window switch
• Midgate 25-amp window regulator circuit breaker

Reading a little more from service repair manual i do see a relay , it's part of the window motor assembly . Could possibly be the window regulator . You need to take midgate panel off an look inside . Test electric to the motor while in then .
Midgate Window Operation
When the midgate window switch is activated to Up, battery voltage is supplied to the coil of the midgate window up relay in the window motor, energizing the relay. When the window up relay is energized, the window is driven in the Up direction.
When the midgate window switch is activated to Down, battery voltage is supplied to the coil of the midgate window down relay in the window motor, energizing the relay. When the window down relay is energized, the window is driven in the Down direction.

Midgate Window Regulator Replacement
Removal Procedure
Remove the midgate inner panel. Refer to Midgate Inner Panel Replacement .
Remove the midgate window. Refer to Midgate Window Replacement .
Disconnect the midgate window regulator electrical connector (1).
Remove the midgate window position switch (2) from the window regulator. Refer to Midgate Window Position Switch Replacement .
Remove the nuts retaining the window regulator to the midgate.
Remove the regulator from the midgate.
Installation Procedure
Install the regulator to the midgate.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
Install the nuts retaining the window regulator to the midgate.
Tighten
Tighten the window regulator nuts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
Install the midgate window position switch (2) to the window regulator. Refer to Midgate Window Position Switch Replacement .
Connect the window regulator electrical connector (1).
Install the midgate window. Refer to Midgate Window Replacement .
Check and adjust the midgate window alignment to the weatherstrip channel. Refer to Midgate Window Replacement .
Install the midgate inner panel. Refer to Midgate Inner Panel Replacement .

These system are controlled by an electronic module that should
send a fault code to the BCM (Body Control Module) and accessed via the DLC (Diagnostic/Data Link Connector) if a fault is present.

Some Auto parts stores will connect a OBDII scanner to your vehicle for free and provide you with a starting point should any fault codes be present. Fault code scanning is always the first step in trouble shooting a problem.

check the fuse/relay. if it is neither of these check the switch with a multimeter. If you can hear the motor trying to move the glass when you try the switch it may be the regulator needs attention. It may be the motor needs to be replaced.

check fuse and relay along with the switch first then the regulator and motor afterwards. Replacing the small electronics is obviously easier than having to open up the tailgate to check the mechanics of the winedow.

I assume you have an XUV. Same thing happened to me a few months back. If the glass isn't broken ( and you would have heard it if it did), its the "midgate window regulator" that has failed. I recently installed one myself and it's not terribly difficult [couple of hours x 2 nights by myself - easier with another pair of hands] if you are somewhat mechanically inclined and have a basic tool set. Duct tape works well.

The shift cable probably has broken, usually the ring at the end breaks. Below is a diagram that shows the cable (it is item #7)

the plastic part of the window regulator has broken I think on that year the motor and regulator come as a one piece replacement unit and are fairly easy to install,if you remove the inner panel you should be able to see the broken piece when you try to cycle the window.Good luck

take inside door skin off, everything now a days is plastic, prob the arm to lift window or a plastic gear broke, really easy to do....
