Yes there is a thermostat. If the engine is running rough first thing I would do is a compression test. Hopefully you didnt blow the head gasket from running the engine hot. Potential problems plugged radiator, low coolant level ( if so where is it leaking from) Circulation ( are both radiator hoses hot when warmed up)
If not make sure the radiator fluid is up if there is an air pocket it will get hot some have a bleeder screw to release the air from the top of the engine usually on the therm0stat housing or the radiator. Dont run the car if the guage is climbing to the top. The fan clutch will not spin fast enough with the engine idling will cause overheating. The radiator can have restriction from sludge or metal shavings inside and the flow can be blocked so it will not circulate. The water pump should be checked for play and lea\king dont confuse the play in the fan clutch to the play in the water pump bushing make sure you are watching the pully on the waterpump when you are moving it if it is moving at all your waterpump is shot. Be careful not to open the radiator cap when the engine is hot it will injure you hold a thick towel over the cap to loosen the cap and do it slowly let the air bleed off dont just remove it quickly that will protect you from the hot water shooting out of the cap if you remove it hot.Another place you can leak water is from the hoses or the intake gasket. fill it up check if both hoses are hot if not change the thermostat if still not both hot pull the radiator and flow test it at the radiator shop. check the waterpump play.replace it if it has play in the waterpump bushing or if it is leaking. You c you can do a combustion check on the water and if you fail the test the head gasket is blown.

Yes, there is a thermostat. That's a good place to start.

Please see my tip at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5929960-s_thermostat . These are generic instructions. If you get stuck or need specific instructions for your car, please get back to me.

I have a 1997 dodge pick up v6 wont heat up past 150 no heat n bottom hose is cold any help would be nice thanks moe

Interesting. My first guess is the thermostat is not completely closed.
The bottom hose being cold tells me the thermostat is closed as it should be, but maybe not completely closed.
If the cooling system is full of coolant and has no air pockets, both heater hoses should get hot after 10 min of run time.

Engine Diagram 2007 kia sportage

With conventional cooling system, the upper radiator hose goes to thermostat housing on the engine. You drain antifreeze down, a little, remove radiator hose from thermostat housing, remove thermostat housing, the thermostat should be inside the housing.
Some antifreeze is poisonous, dispose of properly.
Install new thermostat, hook everything back up. Add proper amount of antifreeze to the proper mark. Keep an eye on antifreeze level for a while till your sure all air worked out of the system.

The water on my car keeps heating up alot and it goes into the engine coolant resevoir leaving the rediator dry

You need to replace the radiator pressure cap. I would also replace thermostat, drain and flush radiator to start. If it continues the water pump may be not pumping water. If the thermostat is stuck closed it wont allow water to cycle through the engine causing it to boil and the pressure cap is not holding the pressure allowing it to flow to the reservoir. So first change the thermostat and the radiator pressure cap.

I have problems with my ac on a 4.2 1998 f150 pick up truck

jorge, I'm not sure I understand. I am wondering about the engine temperature when the truck is warmed up. The thermostat controls the engine temperature. Need to know what the dash gauge indicates (if equipped w/ one) for engine temp. If the thermostat was removed, or defective, the engine would run too cold all the time, resulting in a no heat, or very little heat problem. Let me know so we can figure this out. So, 1st thing to check is the antifreeze level in the radiator, and overflow bottle. If the level is too low, u won't get any heat, so make sure it's at the full mark. Next, answer above questions.
