Hi,
Looks like the problem is in the wiper mechanism switch.
Located in the base of your wiper, wires are connected in that area, one contact point might have fused itself to return contact point. Check on that and let us know.
You could check also the rear wiper switch, the contact inside might have fused with "on" contact point.
Hope that stops that reckless wiper!
Thanks for using Fixya!

1999 vw golf front wiper wont stop working changed the relay

Since changing the relay once fixed it, perhaps the problem is with the relay socket. Have you tried jiggling the relay to see if they will stop wiping? Perhaps there is a short behind or inside the socket.

VW Golf 2001 Rear Window Wiper stays on.

Back window wiper switches/levers are tricky, especially on German-brand automobiles.
Just make sure that the lever/switch is on 'O' or OFF. I overlooked this once on an Opel Astra, and mistook it for the signal lever. Move the switch to all positions to ensure that there is no damage to the physical contacts or electronic controllers of the wiper.
If the wiper cycles even in off position, the controller or motor will need to be replaced.

Where is the switch for my 1997 VW Golf rear windsheild wiper? I just bought it and I can't find it...

The switch for the rear wiper is on the actual windshield wiper switch for the front wipers, you have to push the lever forward to turn it on and then again to turn it off, to use the washer fluid for the rear wiper you push the same lever forward and hold it there till the washer fluid comes out.

Wipers stay on

Hi,
There are several possible causes, and maybe a fault code scan would help. You did not say whether the intermittent wipe and various speeds work - do they? In the meantime, check that the wiper stalk is in the correct position.
You could also try removing the front wiper relay to see if that stops them - if so get an auto electrician to try a replacement relay before buying it ;-)
and you could try removing the "rear" wiper fuse - yes rear, if your car has rear wipers. Then please let me know if any of these ideas had an effect! Well take it from there. Thanks, D
