I have a 2004 Impala. My heater and defrost blows cold air. It takes forever to start getting warm - I have to drive about 30 minutes before it starts to get warm if it's going to. If I turn the blower control down a lot, sometimes it will get warmer for a while. Or I can switch from dash to floor and it will be warm for a few seconds, then turns cold. Sometimes it fluctuates from cold to warm and cold again, it's very frustrating. I also hear a gurgling sound in the dash sometimes, don't know if this has anything to do with the heat or not... It is in the low 20's here and I'm having to hang my head out the window to see because of the frost, ice, and fogging up...Please help!

Staqr by making sure the coolant level is full in the radiator. When the engine is cold remove the radiator cap. If you can't see coolant in the radiator you'll need to add some. once it is full replace the cap and start the engine. Do you have heat now?

If not is the check engine light on?

Do you have a temperature gauge? is it reading lower than normal? The needle should be around the middle mark. If its near the quarter mark than you could have a thermostat stuck open which would cause the check engine light to come on and store a code for coolant temp below operating temperature. I think its code P0128.

Long time before heater blows warm air

That seems pretty normal, the heater works by blowing excess heat from the engine coolant. So the coolant has to be warmed completely for the heat to work, you can get a heater that plugs into your cigarette lighter that will heat the vehicle instantly.

Heater does not warm up. it blows out cold air

I would inspect the car for coolant leaks. If there are any they need to be repaired. Check coolan level in radiator, if full than follow this procedure. Change radiator thermostat. Drain old coolant. Remove heater core hose. Take a garden hose and run water through the heater core for 3-4 minutes or until clear. Retighten Hose. Fill radiator with premix coolant. Star car and let run with defroster on and heat on full blast. Let run for 20-30 minutes and wait till radiator fan to come on. Add coolant as the level drops in the radiator. Also open coolant bleeder screws to purge out air.

2008 Impala heat problems

remove the radiator cap and let the car run for 30 minutes to let the air out of the heater coil, these radiator caps on the 2008 Impala will not bleed off, while running notice if air bubbles air slowly rising to the top of the radiator cap, re-install cap and see if this fixes problem, we also purchased a new radiator cap, this fixed my wifes car.
