2000 jetta tdi , went to start it glow plugs wouldnt come on , after awile it started, automatic tranny wouldnt shift . stuck in high gear , hat to manually shift it

Ok , so you got home , parked it and when you started it up the next day and shifted it into reverse... backed out... and went to shift into drive , it stayed in reverse ? Have you checked to see that the cable has not disjoined itself from the shifter to the trans.? Are you able to engage Park?
SOUND LIKE GLOW PLUGS NOT WORKING DUE TO FAULTY FAULTY COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENSOR OR BLOWED GLOW PLUG FUSE OR BAD RELAY.HAVE VECHICLE CODE SCANNED TO CHECK TO MAKE SURE PRE HEATING SYSTEM WORKING CORRECTLY.CODE SCANNING WILL GIVE YOU A FAULT CODE IF YOU HAVE BAD GLOW PLUG RELAY.
check see if these helps if its not shifting automatic right?tap the brake a few times maybe like 10 or more pay atention if you hear a little thump it means its unlocked those cars have a small piece that goes bad if you dont get it replaced is gonna do the same thing better to get it changed its actually cheap
I currently have the same problem, and looking at replacing the transmission wire harness. I'm hoping this will cure my problem. My volkswagon mechanic thinks so anyways.
Ok , ok. Give me some more information and we'll solve this. We're talking about a jetta TDI 2000 with an ALH engine code I figure.
#1 Do you have an faults recorded in the ECM like a check engine.
#2 Are you using synthetic oil 5W40 preferably Castrol?
#3 How old is your fuel filter?
