Actually the 2006 does not have a lever. Instead it has a small 5mm size hex screw head that you must turn to release the entire mechanism. Once you release the hex 5mm bolt then you can see a metal lever that you must depress to release it completely.

SOURCE: Replacing 2006 VW Beetle headlight How do you do

This is based on my 2001 Beetle, so hopefully they didn't make it any more complicated by the 2006 model year.

Open the hood and look at the inside of the headlight housing. Going from the back of the housing toward the front, there's a metal clip, then a plastic lever, then a little rectangular button with dots on it. These are all right next to each other. Pop off the metal clip, press down on the little rectangular button, then pull up on the plastic lever. It's kind of like a childproof pill bottle cap, I guess. Once you've done all those maneuvers, the headlight housing should slide out the front. Then you can unplug the wires and replace the whole unit, or open up the unit and replace just the bulb.

Since you're working on the driver's side, you'll also have the added joy of trying to work around the battery compartment. You may have to take the battery cover off to get enough room.

SOURCE: I need to know the step on how to replace

There are two spring clips located under the hood around each headlamp housing. Open both clips and extract the headlamp housing from the front of the car by pulling the plastic assembly by grabing the edges by the black rubber seal. The entire headlamp housing will pull out from the front bumper enough to allow you to change the bulbs. Repeat procedure and clip the spring clamps back in place.

Headlights don't work in a 2006 VW Passat. Running lights work and bright lights work. I can't find the fuse box to check the fuse.

This same thing happened to me... Took it to a VW dealer and ran diagnostics... found nothing. After days of frustration I found it wasn't a fuse problem at all. Replaced the bulbs with "Bright Whites" from Napa... After replacing the bulb I still had trouble with right side, it took several attempts to install it properly, before it worked. Had to do this against the garage door to be able to tell when they were working properly. Therefore, I found that it was all in the way I was installing it.

Trying to remove the lightbulb from a passat 2006 the front light (headlights)

Just take off the back cover of the light housing, unplug the bulb, undo any retaining clips (VW often uses a swing-latch style metal retainer), and grab the base of the bulb. Twist it to unlock, and it should come right out.

Change headlamp bulb on vw polo 2006

Open the hood/bonnet and you should see the back of the headlights in the front corners of the engine compartment. Look for bolts/sping-clamps that are holding them in place, and remove. Slide the headlight out so you can reach the bulb, remove the old one and replace. Reverse the removal procedure to replace the headlight

Head light removal

at the bottom of the headlight where it sits on the bumper you will have to push down on the bumper as the headlight gets caught on the lip of the bumper, they are a bit tricky, i hope this helps, also there is a sprung loaded clip that you need to relase once you have wound the head light forward, you will need a long bladed screw driver it sits on the side of the headlight near the front on either headlight
