There is a push button switch in the door jamb for the lift gate. look closely and you will find it. when the door is shut the button is pushed and the interior lights and open door warning go off. it is broken and you need a new one. this will be a dealer item and it snaps or screws in. when you get the new switch you may want to pay someone with mechanical aptitude to replace it.

Look for the pin switch on the body where the lift gate is. The switch could be stuck, broken, or corroded. Theres a pin switch on every door to turn on the inside lights, and sometimes they fail. Make sure it is clean, and moves easily. If its stuck, a shot of WD-40 will get it going again. If no matter what you do, you cant get it working properly, replace it.
