98 grand cherokee limited 5.2L same problem found leak not from heater box but from drain mount on firewall under the glove box not behind it. drain line should be located behind right front tire in the frame. Turn your wheels hard left look inside fender well right side towards back side. hole in frame where drain line should come out.
I'm not sure where the drain hose is but its lower than the floor. There should be a hose or tube sticking out of the floor or the firewall on the passenger side that drains the ac evaporator. If the tube is clear, the bottom of the HVAC housing could be blocked.
Drain is on pass side under hood on firewall, You have to access it from underneath. Use a coat hanger yo clean it out, Keep in mind when it opens your likely to get very wet... Good luck
We had the exact same problem with our grand cherokkee. The drain goes through the firewall, under the carpet, behind the glove box and comes out inside the frame on the passenger side. It's virtually impossible to get to.
There is a way to fix the problem. You can get a repair kit from your dealer. You have to pull back the carpet, which mean taking the interior side wall and the door threshold off. You then have to drill a hole in the vent housing, then using a small parts grabber reach in and pull out the debris that has built up, next you let the system drain (a small flexable bucket help for catching the water that comes in), then install the supplied plug. If my memory serves me right the kit came with fairly good instructions.
Your water problem is caused by a cloged a/c drain. Under the hood on
the pass. side firewall you can see a small tube coming out of the
firewall (look towards the bottom). Take a coat hanger and try to clear
out the drain, this will solve the problem. You should get a good
amount of water come out.
