I didn't know my wipers were frozen to the windshield, so when I turn them on, they couldn't move. I immediately went out and broke them loose, but now they won't move. The moter is working, and I can see the linkage under the cowl screen, moving up and down. I am trying to remove the wiper arm, so I can then remove the sreen, and hopefully see what broke. I haven't seen this type of wiper arm mounting before, and I don't want to break anything by forcing the wrong way. I have read there is a screw holding it on the spline, but I have to remove the cap first. I can't get the cap to pop off. How is it done? Thanks, Diana

Using a small flat blade screwdriver and prying up.Then remove the 13mm headed nut.remove the stripped arm and clean the splines on the stem where you removed the arm.Turn your key on and turn your wipers off. After you see the stems stop moving then reinstall the arm on the bottom of the windshield like they be when not being used.If the vehicle has factory windshield in the windshield may have dots or lines where the wipers should sit on the windshield when parked.next tighten the nut and try out the wipers to make sure they move correctly.

I can hear my wipers trying to work but they arent moving

not enuff info. sounds like they were frozen and broke free, first one then the other. I'm afraid if that was the case, manualy moving them may have been your downfall. Usualy there is a place where you can look in and see the linkage working, either under the hood or through the vent at the bottom of the windshield (outside) you may need a flashlight. Turn the wipers on and see if you can tell if the motor is, but the linkage is not turning. Or if the linkage is moving but the wipers are not moving. You just need to narrow down the possabilities. Good Luck

Drivers side windshield wiper does not move.

remove the cover at base of the wiper arm, where it connects to the vehicle. usually all thats wrong, is the nut which attaches the arm to the stem on the wiper transmission, has come loose. this usually happens when the wipers are turned on while the blades are frozen to the windshield. check to see if the stem turns and the wiper arm does't move. turn the wipers off, and position your wiper arm in its' parked position. then tighten this nut. if this isn't the problem , then it.s furthur inside, either the wiper transmission, or the wiper motor, and you will probably need to have it looked at by a pro. good luck!

WIPERS WILL NOT MOVE. CHECKED FUSE-IT'S GOOD. CAN HEAR MOTOR KICK IN,WIPER ARMS WILL NOT MOVE.

sounds like you broke it underneath where the wipers arms hook up there is a plastic bushing under there and they **** all it takes is the wipers to be frozen to the windshield and it could break there may be a cover at the bottom of the windshield on the outside of the car may come off with screws and clips or both check under there sometimes your lucky and you can put it back on

I danged the wipers to get the ice off and they just quit working. The fuse is not blown. The wipers move back and forth really easy by the use of your hands now too.

try revoving the caps at the bottom of the wiper arms, and see if the fasteners have come loose. very common problem when they're turned on while frozen to windshield. if so, turn wiper motor off and let it come to "park" position. then tighten fasteners with blades in the down, or "park" position. If the arms are not simply loose on the stems, the you have a wiper transmission problem. either broke or has come off at one of the pivots. this is a little more serious and you may want to have that handled by a pro.

Wipers were frozen but would not work when thawed

if you turned them on when they were frozen then you may have damaged the motor or linkage to wipers. the first thing to do is to check your fuses to make sure the wiper fuse is good. if not then replace the fuse and try the wipers, also turn key on with engine off, turn wipers on and listen to see if you hear the wiper motor running if you do then maybe something came apart, most linkage snaps together, hope this helpscc019cf.gif
