That is not a good noise. you will need to remove the rear cover on the rear end I think you will find a lot of broken pieces, sounds like you need a ring and pinion gear set......SORRY

I have a steady whining humming sound from my rear end of my 2007 jeep commander when u start it and push on gas. what could it be?

rear end (I use and electronic stethoscope to find all that)
but rear end. is a big place..
bad U-joints top that list (repeat)
bad axle bearings.
brakes bad, there. or the warning devices there for early brake warn.
bad 3rd member, gear sets or bearings in same or pinion.

my guess is car is moving right>
if not moving ,its dying rat up in there.or loose parts.

Humming noise when car is moving

most likely if its a hum it could be tires , if its a roar it could be the drive train

support the vehicle on jack stands , start the engine , put in drive and let it idle, if noise is gone ...its the tires if not check the drive train ...start with fluid levels

This rear end needs to be replace or re-built

This rear end needs to be replaced or re-built. The gears and or bearings are worn/shot. May be able to get a complete rear end from a Junk yard for much less, one in good condition. Good Luck

Humming noise in rear end

It sounds like you have a bad wheel berring in the rear, but they are a sealed unit, with no where to grease them. If you want to quiet it, you need to replace it, but first i would reccomend jacking it up on the wheel you believe to be making the noise and spin it and shake it, just to be certain it is the one you want to replace.
Good luck
