Question about 1995 Cadillac DeVille
You can use a standard scanner with a adapter or you need a paperclip. You find the diag connector under the driver dash board. If you put the paper clip from A to B and turn the ignotion on (dont start the car) and watch the check engine light. The light will blink a code three times and then move to the next code if there is any. It will blink like so for example if the code is 12 it will blink once pause then blink twice and repeat three times. It will then display any other codes. Remember that it will show each code three times before moving to the next code. You can research the codes online, at any autozone or post them here and I will tell you what the meanings are and try to give you a course of action to follow.

88 thru 95 have a obo 1 diagnostic system. one way is to buy a reader at an autopart store. all this reader does is flash a light a number of times and you count the flashes to get the code. an easier way is to take a short wire and find your assembly line data link. it is under your dash on the driver side. take the wire and insert one end in the ground opening. it is the one on top all the way on the right. Then the other goes into the opening nest to it on the left. this is the tester opening. turn the ignition to the on position. DO NOT START THE CAR WITH THE WIRE IN THE TEST TERMINAL. the engine light will blink a code 12 to tell you it is working. this will be one flash of the engine light followed by a short pause and the two more quick flashes. that means code 12. after a long pause it will repeat 2 more times code 12. if there are any other codes they will come after that. you will have to count the flashes to get the code number. it will repeat until you remove the wire from the diagnostic terminal.
