I have a 2001 Prius. The ignition will not turn over. I was told there was a problem possibly with the relay a few months back. The engine would have a misfire for the first 20 seconds after being turned on, eventually driving fine after that. Now it will not start, first it was making a loud noise in the black box that says relay on it when the key was put in the "on" position, now it will not do anything. Please help!

Possible crank sensor ignition module ignition coil electrical/wiring issues computer. Any of these, just to name a few, can cause this problem. You may have to wait until the problem becomes more frequent in order to actually find it. Sometimes scanning the vehicles computer may help as there could be a code stored that may point you in the right direction

Yup ignition switch is done

There is a cube relay next to the fuses for the ignition. If it goes bad the engine will turn over, but it will not start. There are two large (~1"x1"x1") relays next to each other. One is for the electric radiator fan relay and one for the ignition relay. When my ignition relay went bad and I switched the two...the engine turned over but would not start. This does not explain the other issues, but who knows they may not be related.

The gas engine is the same as an ordinary engine,be shure to remove the key out of the ignition,then connect the positive lead first to both cars and last the negative lead[dont let the leads touch.Fit your ignition key and start as normal,when it starts remove the negative lead first and then last of all the positive lead.To be honest give the battery a good charge once every 2 months as an alternator will never fully charge a battery...

GET A TUNE-UP ,CAP&ROTOR,WIRES PLUGS,CHANGE THE ELECTRIC COIL

i presume it was recharged by a certified hvac tech, then take it back that should still be under warranty,otherwise check your a/c relay hvac /fan fuse control circuit,with car engine turned off switch on ignition,but dont start,you should hear a click from the clutch magnet on the compressor,and if possible check for 12volts d.c. at clutch wires lack of voltage wont let comp operate,then it needs to be diagnosed from clutch back thru to fuse/relay panel

I have same engine problem. Triangle signal pop up after I try to start my Prius with a still wet air filter to the car . The engine just run for less than 30 sec. and stopped with the triangle signe pop up. I think this sign will pop up whenever the engine detect certain major function failure. For my case, it was due to retricted air supply to the engine. I have tried Lovebytes suggestion and the triangle sign disappeared with a dry clean filter. My Prius is running good now. This warnig sign may have other implications. Once you try this method and sign still come on. You need to have your car check by garage.

I had the same problem. I unplugged the relays from the fuse/relay box under the bonnet. (Top left side) and replaced them. The problem disappeared. (2001 Prius 109,000 miles)

I had the same problem. I removed the relays from the fusebox under the bonnet/hood (top left side) and then replaced them. All working OK now. Sometimes I have had a problem when I start the car (especially after rainy day) the petrol engine immediately dies and I can only drive in electric. I have found that if I turn the ignition off and then restart it and immediately pump the accelerator it makes the engine run OK. Hope this helps.
