I have 1996 Audi A6 2.8L V6. My battery is dying now. I checked amp and it was 250CCA which it has to be 650CCA. I tried to buy a new battery in the Walmart, but they said my Audi doesn't have vent tube. so they cant replace it for me. Instead, I need to buy special battery for my car that costs $155. But, I found one white tube next to the battery that had been disconnected. So, I asked the mechanic in the walmart again. He said he is not sure, but if it is the vent tube for the battery, he can replace it. So, my question is "is it vent tube for battery?" It is opaque white tube connected to the body. My old battery does not have any vent tube connection, so it may be disconnected because it was not necessary. If I buy regular battery, is it gonna work? Thank you!!

If you car has been running without a tube then it should be ok without one. All the Walmart Store is doing is to cover themselves as well as sell you a more expensive one. I would shop around and get other opinions. I am not saying you do not need one but get other advice. Could save you some money. I had one store say that a certain part would not work on my Buick but another mechanic installed it and two years later it is still working.

SOURCE: My Audi 98 2. 8l car is always overheating

Hi Counchcharles
Your service displays have to be reset with the correct electronic equipment....When you chage the engine oil the computer management system will have to be told...thats the job of the scanner....go to a service centre and have them cancel it for you.
The over heating problem is nothing to do with that though.....Check to see if you have any leakage....open the pressure cap only when the engine is cold....best is first thing before start up in the morning....check to see if you need topping up....if you do, it'll mean you have a leakage....Check the entire radiator and hoses where they go from the rad into the engine and ventilation system for stains from the coolant....If you can't find any look at the thermostat....If you remove it, replace with anew unit, do not dis-guard it also check the pressure cap and if needs be replace....Good luck
Best regards Johngee10

SOURCE: Timing belt replacement for a 1999 Audi A4(elective)

Well, the labor on this specific Audi will be 5.5 hrs+ parts. the labor depends on the shop. every shop is different. lets say you brought it to my shop.my labor charge is 50 dollars an hour so, that will be a $275.00 labor charge added to the part cost which would be $220.44 for the timing belt and tensioner combined. this brings you to a total of $495.44 for the total repair. Keep in mind, this figure was calculated on the basis of a 50 dollar an hour labor charge. it can flucuate ethier way, depending on what shop you take this vihical to. I must say that, its better to replace it before it breaks and, it is a good rule of thumb to replace the water pump as well at the same time as this repair.

Please rate and have a great day:)

hello, it sounds like the alternator is the problem, most auto parts stores can check the alternator/charging system at no charge without removing it from the truck, I'm sure you will find that the alternator needs to be replaced.

Battery draining fast

I would check the alternator again, it apparently isn't charging the battery with engine running. You need a volt meter or amp meter to test this. Also does the battery discharge when the car is not running?
