I had one of these in the UK, first model change after the Bluebird. Then the Diesel, and after that the Turbo Diesel........... Damn good cars.
Yours has the single point fuel injection system, with an integrated electrically powered rheostat type "Choke" control. Looks like a big Carb.
It may well be that the "Butterfly" in the control unit is not resetting when the vehicle is left and then Cold started.
To check>>>when cold starting, depress the throttle pedal once, foot off the pedal, and key start.
If the unit is working properly, then the engine will immediately go to a "Fast Idle" speed during warm up. If this does not happen, then there is your problem.
It is a DIY if you have to change parts.
