Hello, you can get a free scan at Autozone and Oreillys to name a few places that do courtesy work. Once you get a diagnosis you can buy their parts or go to a Repair shop.

You will need to have the on-board computer cleared when you finish a repair. Its best to use a scanner to do this and if you return to Autozone they will clear it for you.

Using a scanner is the first thing a Mechanic would do to start a repair. If you want to verify a defect Code you can contact this site or go with their information. Make a mental note of the symptoms as some Codes have multiple causes.

Emissions light came on in my ford taurus2001 and its a little slugish.

Take it to autozone or someplace like that and have them run a scan tool on it. They do that for free. They can tell you what the code is and you can get an idea of what is wrong.

Engine management light is on and driving slugish

The information below was complied by me, it explains what causes the check engine light to come on and the process of finding the cause.

When the Check Engine light (or Service Engine Soon) is turned on, the systems computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible system faults (the gas cap is just one of them) that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen/Oriley and Autozone parts stores (USA only) do this testing for free.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SLUGISH, ENGINE CODE PO305

That code is for a cylinder #5 misfire. I would suggest starting with new plugs and wires, if no help then I would consider a compression check and possibly leak down test or even a faulty injector or computer. Impossible to know which one without seeing car but 90% of the time a good old fashioned tune-up clears that situation up. Remember to clear the code with a scan tool after repair to turn the light off.

Engien light just came on .now running slugish. checked oil empty but oil light did not come on before problem.

add some oil if its not too late. Then go to autozone and borrow their code reader to find out what was damaged as a result of the low oil. you should be using a 5W-30 motor oil.

I have a 2003 vw passat 2.8L while changing the spark plugs I noticed oil in the spark plug holes. After gapping and installing the new plugs I drove the car about 20 mile and the check engine light...

Unfortunately the check engine light could be caused by hundreds of things and yet it could have something to do with your changing of the plugs. Do me a favor and take the car to your local auto parts store and they will check the code for the engine light for you for free. Bring that code back here and I will help you figure out what is causing the light and the slugish engine. Sorry for your problem but I'm sure I can help you get it fixed. Thanks for using FixYa!

My explorer is slugish

Plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor. Easy. That's all a tune-up really is. Don't take it in to a shop for this because later down the road when you realize what it takes to change these, you'll be mad at yourself for paying so much money and for not believing in yourself.

Many things can effect an engine during the cold.

I'd start by doing other basic tune up replacements. Such as an Air Filter, PCV valve, Fuel Filter, Oil Change. All things things keep an engine healthy.

Another thing to try is a bottle off fuel system cleaner. I recommend such brands as prestone, lucas oils, or STP. These will help eliminate deposits on the fuel system and help keep the fuel and air moving.

Did you replace the plugs with pregapped plugs? If your plugs aren't gapped right this could happen as well.

Hope these ideas help you out bud!
