The windshield wiper switch on my 2001 lumina needs to be replaced and I am thinking of doing it myself. How hard is it to do this? Is it true that I would need to take the steering wheel off?

No , the steering wheel doesn't need to be pulled off . The wiper switch just pulls out of the steering column .

Verify that the lever (2) is in the center of the OFF position.
Disconnect the electrical connection (3) behind the lever (2).
Remove the switch lever (2) by pulling straightly outward on the lever .

SOURCE: How to replace windshield wipers on a 1994 Chevrolet Lumina

The glass shop probably put the arms back on in the wrong position. You can remove the arm and reset them at a different clock position and see if that helps.

SOURCE: replace turn signal switch 1998 chevy lumina

You may look or feel the back side of the steering wheel, looking for 2 screws that hold the airbag to the wheel, these will be internal torq type screws (star) you may have to rotate the steering wheel 90 degrees to access the screws. You should first disable the airbag, by removing the airbag fuse, and or by disconnecting a yellow connector located near the base of the steering column. under the knee bolster.(panel below column). Once the retaining screws are removed, lift bag and disconnect the 2 connector to the airbag, the ground for the horn, and the horn contact wire, which requires you to push down and twist counter clockwise, damage to the horn contact ring will occur if you try and just pull connector from the ring. Now you can remove the steering wheel, may require a puller, and the you will have access to the turn signal switch.

First remove the wiper arms. Then remove the screws that hold the black plastic grill, you will see the motor. You will need then to disconnect the wiper arm transmission linkage from the motor, then remove the three bolts holding the motor on, dont't forget to disconnect the electrical connector from the motor.Install in reverse order.Good luck.

I think the multi-function switch is bad on my 2005 Ford Taurus SE.The windshield wipers are functioning continuously. The fuse box is located under my hood. Which fuse can I pull to "kill" the wipers?

open the bonnet open the black fuse and relay plastic box. Listen for the relay kicking in or you may be able to feel the relay or look on the cover for the relay location. Pull out the relay .
I have a faulty headlight switch myself and had to hard wire my head lights on with a jump wire. The relay is in my pocket until I can get a new headlight indicator stalk. You may be able to jump wire the wipers with spade connectors to work with a jump wire in case you need wipers until you can replace the wiper stalk .
It could be a stuck relay causing the fault rather than the switch. you need to check if switch causes voltage to turn off accross the relay coil in the relay mount block.

My windshield wipers work but I cant squirt windshield cleaner

it's likely the tiny motor/pump located at the bottom of the tank that has failed. to confirm this have some turn on the washer fluid switch and test for voltage at the pump. there are several aftermarket pumps you can use as a replacement.

93 lumina van wiper motor starts but wont shut off

The routine (resistor) that shuts off the wipers and parks them correctly is in the wiper motor, not the switch. I assume your switch is good since you make no complaints about its movement. One thing to check before replacing wiper motor is to loosen the wiper arms, and let the motor park itself in what you feel is the bottom of windshield position. Now align the wipers and retighten.

If these get positioned wrong after, say, a frozen morning, this will affect parking of wipers since motor "park" is no longer in synch with wiper arm "park."

Otherwise, if wiring and positioning are correct, I recommend replacing the wiper motor itself.
