Hesitation on acceleration pulls down on hills it is cold blooded and lack of power

first tell what chokes mean. (it means 2 things so I ask)
2006 never got a full tune up on the engine in 16 years./?
uphills. power loss = chokes sure.but
for example, engine misfires violently felt and heard.???
or no misfire but lacks power just like dragging 2000lb dead weight.
we call that bogging, like walking in swap or bog.
bad spark loves to fail up hills (no new spark parts) due to higher combustion pressures.
bogging is caused by low fuel pressure, the filters is packed up
or air filter never changed out. again tune up parts.

the best ACT is get the car serviced in a real shop.
tell them it lacks power on hills , hot engine
the cold engine evidence told , hints at weak fuel pressure.
EFI FPR might be bad, fuel pressure Regulator, and more to find more takes tools you do not have,.

losing power and backfiring could be because of a bad mass air flow sensor . Could have jumped time , timing chain

name it, give details.
hot engine,
cold engine
both hot and cold?
hesitates then catches up Y/N?
does engine have full power at wide open throttle up hills.? y/n

these input facts, point to causes, reducing labor and tests. 10 fold.

You sure filter is facing flow correctly?:I'd check that first,some cars/trucks have in-line filters.

run the fault codes and see which sensor is going out.

Hey, maybe the engine is just too small for big hill's :) but u can try to chance air filter and fuel filter and overlook the spark plugs (when it's a petrol engine)

Im having the same issue I believe. I have a 94\' Chevy 1500 and when i accelerate it will jerk like the gas has cut out but it wont stall. It just jerks and slows me down. It only seems to do it when going up a hill. I feel like it could be the fuel pump or possibly some intake gaskets?

You may want to check engine performance. If you have any problem with either the fuel (including filter) or ignition system (including timing chain) the transmission will react to the subsequent lack of power, in order to maximize remaining power... This includes early downshifts.

after the blue indicator went out, the power came back. Must be a cold run inhibitor

The problem is most likely break down of the spark plug wires. The demands on the spark during acceleration and load destroy the wires as they age. I would start there. Hope this helps.
