Car's carpet gets wet only when raining and only where the feet touch. i pulled capet back and noticed a leak from side where wiring is running toward back seat. it comes up from a clip with a rubber seal on it. any good ideas to stop leak? 2000 Toyota Corolla
It's easy to deadpan that you need to offer dry shoes to people you pick up in the rain, from your description. It could be clearer where the leak is compared to the side panels, etc.
It's pretty easy to test in summer with a nice nozzle; spritz it until what goes on does not drain out, and replace that outer seal with 50-year (silicone tolerates weather and temperature variance well) caulk or whatever is appropriate. It sounds like a wire access along the guttering is open or being splashed. It also sounds like a fair idea to get the car in the air and see that the drain holes in the frame, pan and shielding are not scooping up rain instead of just clear to shed it. Sometimes a bottom coating can come off sidewise....

Check the door drain vents in the bottom of the door ensure they are not blocked, when it rains the rain travels through the door at the window seal and escapes through opening, . Open the door and check underneath. If blocked water fills the door and gets into the car. Also if the car has a sunroof water may be coming through there. If not this try going through a car wash while in the car and seen if you can see it hear any water getting in my
If the roof is a T-top then it may be leaking from the old seals. Especially in areas with heavy rains. Just simply replace the seals along the T-top. They range around $130 per side to buy new. Some sites that can offer more specifics are mr2.com
The two most common causes are rain water leaking in or the ac drain being clogged up. I would vote for rain water if the entire carpet area is wet.
Could be coming in around the windshield, or one of the door gaskets.
The hot floor is the catalitic converter. It may be bad, but you need to find out why it got hot. usually lean codes will be present with this problem. could be a bad vacuum leak. mass air flow sensor could be bad. as far as the water being a 2006 I do not think it is the windshield, probably the drain is plugged up for your a/c look under the hood, passenger side, there should be a tube that hangs down around where the a/c lines go in to cabin. you can try to back flush it or run something up in it to free it up. good luck
I think that I can help you. It sounds like your drain-tube is plugged up. Get in the passenger side, and pull the carpet back from under the glove box. Look for a black rubber pipe that goes from a black box, and pokes thru the firewall, on the passenger side. Remove the hose from the box, and have a container ready to catch water. If water comes out of the black box, your drain hose is plugged up. Clean out the clog, and you will be golden.
Is it possible the water is actually coming from the A/C evaporator case, whose DRAIN IS CLOGGED ? The water produced by the A/C then leaks out of the case, down under the carpeting, then depending how vehicle is parked, can flow to the rear floors and carpet. Hope this helps
It sounds like a plugged drain line from the air conditioner. Most cars now run in the a/c mode whenever u turn on the climate control (even when heat is on). The passenger side front is where it would be wet, and the carpet and carpet pad act like a sponge and will soak up the water. Let me know how u make out.
