My truck (a 1996 2500 HD with a 5.7 liter V8) sometimes doesn't start. If I "wiggle" the fuel Pump relay under the hood the thing starts right up. How do I correct this problem so that my wife can drive this truck with confidence? Is this a common problem with this Chevy truck. Don

Well it is old.
are you in the USA Salt belt (google that)
if yes all cars are a mess now. that old, (RUST MAX)(
the cure is a new fuse box or used off car-part.com from texas or Arizona
i guess new relay is not tried.??? really?
the relay is in a socket, if you look at the pin and see rust or green corrosion
then that is a huge problem common. but not where I live.
one can dismantle the fuse box and look for damage
red rust or green corrosion.
sure can and near impossible to fix, it. only finding one rust free is the fix.
from the south of USA used
the dealer has no parts now this old. like that. but do ask them first.

SOURCE: 1997 Chevrolet Silverado Fuel System

Hello Johnholley
I am wondering do you hear the fuel pump when you just turn the key into the on run position not crank just in run and listen and see if you hear the fuel pump run for a second, If you don't hear it you will want to check for power at the fuel tank, and have some one cycle the key while your under the truck with a test light. Hopefully you have power and you hear the fuel pump run. Now if you do hear the fuel pump running then the next thing you will want to check is for spark, It could be the ignition module or pickup coil. check out those thing and I am sure you will be able to figure out whats going on. If you don't get back to me and we can try a few other methods. I sure hope that helps you out johnholley. and thanks for using Fix Ya Bear001

SOURCE: 97 chevy 4.3 liter no spark no fuel pump running.

4.3 and 2.8 motors have a ceramic module in the distributor. if you have alot of miles on the truck, and there is no spark, that module is usually the culprit. easy to replace with a nut driver and some dielectric grease. mod is located in the distributor when you take the cap off look straight dowm and its right there.
also check eec relay and fuse. that will also cause the prob.

Fuel not reaching carby

replace the relay under the hood first its the cheapest thing to do .. Then see if you have fuel pressure at the fuel rail on top of the engine.. There is sometimes a quick cure for this also hit the underside of the fuel tank hard with a rubbler mallot or your fist to wake the fuel pump up and see if it will then start.. If not replace that pump

1991 ford bronco fuel pump wont shut off

The fuel pump should turn on for about 3-5 seconds when you turn the ignition switch to on. If the engine starts the pump should still continue to run, if you do not start the vehicle the pump will shut off. It sounds like your fuel pump relay is stuck. Sometimes they will stick on even with the key off. The relay should be located in the relay box, under the hood on the drivers side on the inner fender well. You can try tapping on the relays with a end of a screwdriver, etc. See if that does anything for you. If that doesn;t help I will have to look up some info. Been a while since I had issues with that .

1993 dodge Grand Cherokee with a 318 hard starting when cold until things under hood click and fuel pump runs.

Your jeep ecu is in need of repair. It has what is referred to as the delayed check engine light problem. If you'll notice, next time you try starting the jeep, it will not start when the check engine light finally comes on, on the dash. The fuel pump will only come on when the ecu finally energizes the relays, and that's when all the clicking starts. Look on ebay for an ecu repair service.

Hello,

Based on your symptoms you described of your car, the first thing I would check is your fuel pump relay fuse. I believe it is possible, that your not getting fuel because your fuel pump relay is blown or has short and is not triggering fuel pump; Check your manual to find out where in your fuse box this is located. Sometimes its under glove box, under drivers side front left and sometimes under the hood. I would first check that to make sure your fuel pump is coming on. Thanks Mike

Fuel pump problem

Check the ground. Sometimes it will work its way loose, not allowing it to start. If ok, check your fuel pump relay in the fuse panel under the hood on drivers side fender well.

Humming from under gas tank resulting in dead battery, 1989 Ford

Sounds like a fuel pump causing noise. If the noise is still present with the key off then the fuel pump relay is stuck causing the battery to die.

I have the same problem out of my 88 e-150 v8. It's the fuel pump. Two things: Wiggle the shifter make sure it is completely in park. For some reason the fuel pump doesn't work unless the shifter is just right. Second: Sometimes the fuel pumps don't just go out. They work intermitently. Open the door, turn the switch on. Then back off. You should be able to hear the fuel pump kicking on and off. Do it several times and you should hear if if is not working 100%
