1996 chevrolet s10 wont shift to overdrive. gives trouble code 1886. i believe this to be a shift sensor. the problem is very similar to one i had with a dodge dakota that turned out to be a speed sensor. the abs light is on just like with my dodge and that went away when i replaced its speed sensor. help please

Time for an overhaul on the transmission or replacement. 4L60's are notoriious for the overdrive clutch to give the "hail mary". Try replacing the transmission filter first.
Try adjusting the transmission rod on the side of the transmission put it in park then put on the e-brake and move the shifter rod all the way forward to park position then it should work. if not you may have bent the shifting linkage when installing the transmission.
the first thing to do is have the computer scanned, to get the codes, from the code this will give you a generaly idea of what the problem is ,like maybe a bad lock converter seloniod or a shift seloniod etc. auto zone auto parts will scan for free. hope this helps.
the speed sensor only affects overdrive, what is the problem exactly, have you run a trouble code tes to see if any shift related codes show up in memory.
