Follow the radiator hose back to the engine. Where the hose meets the engine is where the thermostat is. Should be two or three bolts holding the fixture on. Inside of that fixture is the thermostat. Make sure the engine is cooled down and make sure to replace the coolant that you will lose changing this. Easy fix.
GM recommend Dex-cool extended life coolant.
Even it's extended life coolant,I recommend you to change the thermostat and coolant every 2 years or 24,000 miles.
No, but the belt may have struck the crankshaft sensor. The sensor is behind the crankshaft pulley. Check the wires going back to the sensor and repair as needed. Let me know if you have more questions.
Your thermostat may be stuck open. Your cooling system could be low on coolant, but if that was the case your temp gauage should still move.
Would probably start with a thermostat-you may even have trouble code stored for the thermostat(P0128).
Looking at the location, it should be by the thermostat housing.....this is a pic of what it looks like.....and you can sort of make out the thermostat housing area also:
How do you know the thermostat is ok? If in doubt replace it. Water pumps are a even bigger what if. Did he do a radiator flush? Cooling system flush of the engine? Cooling fans come on at what temp and go off when? Replace the engine temperature sensor? 6 years old is bound to have sensors and such go bad.
