When the car won't start. turn ignition switch off . remove gas cap and have someone turn ignition switch on without cranking the engine.listen for a hissing sound that should last for around 3 to 4 seconds, If you don't hear it the most likely problem is the fuel pump. you can further confirm this by checking voltage at the fuel pump by repeating the first step . There should be 12 volt supply for a few seconds when ignition is turned on.If voltage is present and no sound ,replace fuel pump and raplace fuel filter. Fuel pump is in gas tank. this is a very dangerous operation and suggest you bring it to a mechanic. If there is no voltage ,check the electrical plug to fuelpump as to my experience a lot of unsolved intermittent fuel pump problems could be traced to this plug. The other cause could be fuelpump relay or ECU.

Warning light comes on and stalls put in to neutrel starts ok .brake then light comes on stalls start goes in to limp mode ive got 1997 xj6 4l sov lwb thanks andy .turn off start up light gone out ok

Ok Andy, This sounds like a ddefective #2 02 sensor located afther the catallytic converter. This sensor is the critter that turns the light on and that means it is talking to the electronic control module. Either your fuel misture is way too rich or the cat converter is failing. Good Luck-Ned-

1999 sov v8 does not start instantly on key turn instantly

Many newer Jaguar owbers of the 1998 to 2003 models think there's a problem with the ignition because the car sometimes doesn't start on the first turn of the key. You have to turn the key "all the way" to get the ignition fully engaged. I have a 1999 XJ8 and will turn the key part way, then grab it a second time to fully turn it. It's a design flaw because you have to twist your hand really far to get the key turned enough to get the ignition fully engaged.

I have a 1993 jaguar sov, 4.0 strait 6 cylinder, the oil gauge drops down to nothing and the car starts running rough, is the oil pump internal or external, and how big of a job is it to fix?

Before you tear into the engine remove the oil pressure sender and install a hand held mechanical gauge and check the pressure. The sending unit coud be bad. As far as the rough running.. when was your last tune up?? The gauge could also drop to zero due to insufficient RPM's because of the rough running. Does it have any knocks when the pressure is at zero??

Xj40 1990 sov, brakes rock solid, clicking sound under dfootwell

If the pedal is rock hard with the engine running it is most likely the accumulator and the click noise is coming from the relay under the dash driver side is most likely the main Yellow relay
