my friend i cant understand what you mean conks?the filter if have problem dont stop if its warm...there is always with problem.about the brake...maybe your braking circuit have air or you have leak.
check your idle speed control motor the can play up and not pick the idle up once the car isnt accelerating if it does it more often if the air con is on i get that checked the lights on the dash come because the engine stops and the car goes back to ignition setting
hope this helps and good luck
The battery was a red herring - it would not have anything to do with the problem. Faulty spark plugs could cause a miss but probably not make the engine stall. What you described is a classic example of a faulty idle air control valve or a dirty throttle body. The computer controls idle speed by regulating how much air enters the intake. It opens the control valve to raise idle speed when necessary. I would check the control valve and the throttle body.
You need to make sure you have a good drive belt and verify that the tension is working,if all seems normal then get the alternator or the wiring to it tested.
a bad camshaft position sensor or a vacuum leak. Most likely sensor. Is your check engine light on? you can test sensors with an ohmmeter to determine if a sensor is good or not. It wouldn't be bad to check and make sure your coil packs aren't bad by checking each plug for spark. You can lay one plug and wire at a time one engine so end probe of plug is fairly next to metal. Have someone crank while you watch for spark.
