I have a 1994 olds cutlass supreme 3.4 dohc. I have a master mechanic stumped on what is wrong with it. It revs up and down while in idle until it finally dies. Ive had ALOT of work done to it by process of elimination (i.e. Mass Air Flow Sensor, Throttle position sensor, EGR, Altenator, Battery, Starter, Checked for any vaccuum leaks, basically the car has been a money pitt!) So anyway, Im tired of keeping the brakes and gas on while at a stop light, I go through alot of brake pads. Is it possible that the ems needs to be replaced?

Has the ECM been scanned? Read the live readings from the sensors to see if u have any direction of the problem. Maybe even diagnostic codes. Coolant sensors are known for this issue too. Take an emissions reading & read the emissions. Good Luck

It physically will fit and bolt up,but there are many different ratio,and drive and driven sprocket tooth counts,different final drive ratios,all monitored by the computer with electronic speed sensors.If the trans from the 95 has a different ratio than the 93,the computer will set gear ratio error codes,and possibly put the trans in a failsafe mode,stuck in 2nd or 3rd gear.On the transmission case,down by where the passenger side axle would go in,is a thin metallic tag,maybe 2"x 3",and it has bar codes,and also a series of numbers and letters.The numbers and letters,large cap,are the final drive gear ratio code.They should match on the two transmissions in question.

sounds like ecm sensor problems.does check engine light come on at all?you may be able to get a code reader at autozone to retrieve computer stored codes, this would more than likely lead you in the right direction.some shops will do a computer check cheap if you are unable to perform this task.however the code readers come with instructions and are user friendly;-)

Location for map sensor on a 1994 oldsmobile cutlass supreme 3.4 DOHC?

It's mounted in the right rear notch of the air intake by the fire wall or on the fire wall in that general location. with a vacuum line attached. That is standing in front of the car at the rear top edge of the manifold. Look it up on parts geek you can look at the enlarged picture to see what yo are looking for.

My 1993 olds cutlass supreme idles fine until you step on the gas or when your going down the road at higher speeds than idle it has a hesitation what's the problem?

A flat spot on acceleration could be low fuel pressure or a faulty throttle position sensor. Could also be a vac leak such as a faulty EGR valve.
Is the check engine light on ?

WHAT TYPE OF MOTOR OIL DO I USE AND HOW MANY QUARTS FOR 1993 OLDS CUTLASS SUPREME 3.4L

1993 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS 3.4L 6-cyl Engine Code [X] DOHC

5W30 for all temperatures, 10W30 for above 0*F.

Capacity is 5 qts. without filter change. Add extra oil when replacing filter.
I suggest adding in increments of 1/4 qt. (4oz.)at a time until "full" is indicated on the dipstick.

My 90 olds cutlass supreme 3.1 automatic starts and runs until it warms up.reving the motor and letting it return to idle a few times,the idle gets ruff then dies and will not start again until it cools...

you most likely have a injector breaking down which is causing the quad driver in the computer which control the injector pulse to shut down .When a injector resistance is to low this will happen the correct resistance in ohms is 12.4 per each injector .This was a very common problem with 88 to 97 gm cars.have this zcheck at a reliable shop :)

94 Olds Cutlass Supreme driving after warm trans free wheels until you pull over put in park and shut car off. Start car put in gear and drive away untill it does this again. Seems like a sticking pressure...

i bet u hav as many miles on dat cars as a trip to the moon-the trans is old in alot of places-varnish on parts from heat etc-u can get troubleshootin lit in library sec629 chiltons or haynes in discount auto

How much of a problem is it to change the timing belt on a '94 Cutlass Supreme 3.4L? I know the alternator is a pain.

this unit is not equipped with a timing belt. it has a timing chain. to replace the timing chain is a major undertaking. if you do not have mechanical experience do not attempt . take to a highly reccomended shop.
