That is very interesting.If you have spark to the distributor means that the coil and a CP sensor are OK.Than you have to check ignition leeds and a spar plugs.Did you put correct rotor and a distributor cup?Check compression of the cilynders
Your mechanic is right but if you can get a used one from a reputable salvage yard(yes there are some). you might save some cash. Problem is if it doesn't work you get to pay your mech. to do it again or as many times as it takes to get a good one. Are you a gambling man?
mcdevito75 here, It could be the Starter itself, showing up bad only when hot, looseing electricall connection in the starter, specially if it;s the original one. Take a chance, change the starter.
It is next to the battery on mine. 3" round and 5" long silver canister. A wire braided hose on each end with a screw thru it to attach it to each end.
there is a pump in the tank ther is one under car.one in take is a pre pump one under car in black plastic housing .make sure fuel pump relay is working.
