I have a '95 Maxima, Car cranks for a long time before starting cold, I have to restart it a couple times, after that it runs perfect till it warms up then it continually gets worse till it's near impossible to drive. runs lean on fuel, exhaust glowes red hot, dies when the car is not moving. before it warms up it will go well past the 100mph mark.

Your catalitic convertor is plugging up. you need to replace it. Also you need to find out why it got that way. Could be bad vacuum lines. some sort of vacuum leak after the throttle body/ carb.

95 Nissan Maxima didn't have an inline fuel filter. I added fuel system cleaner to almost empty tank and after driving some it now cranks but won't start

Hello ,, If i were to guess , I would say you cleaned everything up and put all the gunk directly into the injectors . I would try blowing air in the fuel line , but , go a close as you can get to the engine , disconnect the fuel line so that the gunk goes back to the tank and not the engine . then take (with the line still off ) a can of brake clean with the small tube on it and squirt to towards the injectors (the other end of the fuel line that goes towards the engine ) to try to get some of the gunk to come out of the system . Now with the fuel filter still on the car and the end of the fuel line from the tank turn the key on and let the fuel run into a bucket or bottle till you see clean fuel coming out . Then reconnect the fuel line to the engine ,, fill the rest or the tank with new gas and try starting it . You may have to try cranking it a few times till the gunk is out but it just might work . If it dosent you might have to clean up the injectors or replace them . Make sure you can hear the fuel pump working because it might have wrecked that too . Hope that helps.

The car runs well until it gets hot ,it begins to loose power, then is stuter, then shut off. the car makes a coughing -like sound when it shuts off

could be your crank angle sensor to test .turn car on then let it warn up till it cuts out then tip cold water or hose for a couple of mins on the crank angle sensor then stop water and turn car on . if it buggard it will start as when the crank angle senors breaks or is on its way out it will start then idle for a bit then splutter run **** then stall with the cold water it instantly makes it cold again so it will start straight away and repeat the same process of stallin when warm

cold start sensor is faulty. basically when you start a car from cold, the sensor mixes the air and fuel to allow more fuel to air ratio to start the car. as the engine warms the air fuel mixture weakens to give a economical fuel consumption.hence your car starts warm.
