If the clicking sound comes from the starter solenoid, than the starter solenoid copper contacts are burnt. Those are copper contacts 1/8" thick, but 100 Amper current after thousands times starting the engine, burn them out and turns black.
Replace the solenoid assembly, or the starter solenoid copper contacts and the plunger, or replace the starter with a rebuilted one.

Jina, you did not say what year, make, and model the car is.
If your cars battery is good, and you hear a faint click when turning key, the starter is probably stuck and on its way out (needs replaced). I will post a couple videos for you to watch and see if it sounds like yours.

Car won t start not battery

Sometimes just dirty or loose battery connections cause this...current is OK to lights radio etc...but not enough to engage the starter...Any clicking sound indicates low battery...no turning at all may be the starter...Hope the battery posts (clean & retighten) is the problem.

99 mustang won't start it only do 1 click. If it

Battery good, cables good, all connections clean and tight, no corrosion on battery terminals?
Try to determine if click is from solenoid on the starter or starter relay. Turn the headlights on and watch them while someone turns the key to start. If they get dim, probably the starter-have it tested-even new ones are sometimes bad. If lights don't dim, you will need to check the start circuit. Check for power on the small wire to starter solenoid when key is held in start. If no power there, work back towards the ignition switch. Check the neutral safety switch-should have power in and power out when key held in crank. The ignition switch will have a start wire out of the switch going to the neutral safety switch. It should have power with key in start, the only time the start wire will have power.
Post back with what you find-good luck.

Car won't Crank/start

With a voltage meter see how many volts are at the starter terminal. If not 12+ volts you have a bad connection. Check connection at the starter solenoid. Does it have 12+volts? Short the solenoid. Does it put voltage to the starter?

the clicking that you hear is coming from the starter relay. sounds like your ignition starter switch or ignition lock cylinder is bad.

Won't start, lights work and radio also but will not turn over

If lights work, radio but not turn over. First of listen to see if it clicks when turning key, if that happens most likely it is the solenoid on the starter not triggering, if you hear nothing when turning the key, then the cable coming from the battery that goes down to the starter is loose, bad connection. Make sure that the cable from battery is tight, and clean. If Like I said you hear a click when trying to start car, then it is starter/solenoid issue. I hope this helps, if it does please rate my free advice accordingly> Thanks Mike. and check out my personal expert site....

2001 aurora won't start at all. Hook batery up horn horn sounds and doesn't stop head lights stay on but nothing happens when the key is inthe ingition. No clicking or anything at all. alarm on...

The security system does not disable the starter, it only disables fuel to the engine. In the fuse block under the hood, locate the STARTER relay. Place your hand on this relay and see if it clicks while someone else turns the key to start...if the relay is ok then the starter itself is faulty. Good luck, i hope this helps.

Mini van wont start

Sounds like starter selanoid, but first make sure battery connections are clean and tight, if sure they are then turn on headlights and try to start if still clicks and lights dim its starter.
