Question about 1998 Nissan Altima

1 Answer

1998 Nissan Altima ...sometimes the engine races for no apparent reason. We were pulling into a parking lot...all of a sudden the engine started racing...first we hit the brake, and could barely hold the car back...then we put the car in neutral. The engine kept racing. We stopped the car and turned it off. Later, when we started it up again, we had no such recurrence. This has happened a couple of times in the last couple years. We've had a mechanic look at it, but he could not figure it out. Have you heard of this happening before?

Yes,with several makes of car with fuel injection, use a can of redexe/wynns(1 can to 1/2 tank) to clean the fuel lines/injectors of residue.worked for me,but it is also a symptom of several other maladies.

I have a 2009 Nissan Altima. It just started to idle very rough when it's in drive-at low rpm, like when stopped in traffic or at a light. It does not do it when it's in Park, Neutral or Rever

might be the CAM & CRANK SENSORS ! HAVE YOU CHANGED YOU AIR & FUEL FILTERS LATELY ? DO SO IF YOU HAVEN'T. DID YOUR SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT COME ON ? IF SO, GO TO AN AUTOPARTS STORE, HAVE THEM PULL OUT ANY TROUBLE CODES,FROM ECM, IF IT SAYS CAM SENSOR, REPLACE THE CRANK SENSOR AT SAME TIME ! ALSO, THE OXYGEN SENSOR PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE, YOU MIGHT REPLACE IT ASWELL . ALWAYS KEEP FILTERS NEW, OIL CHANGED EVERY 3000 MILES.

01 Nissan Altima check engine light code p0740

Classic engine miss. The cause might be a faulty injector, or more likely an issue with ignition. Start it at night in the dark and look for arcing- that is the area to start. Plug wires and ignition components.

Replacing the radiator system for nissan altima 1998

Drain coolant from the cooling system. White plastic drain plug in bottom of radiator.

take off bottom rad. hose and top rad hose.

All wrenches and sockets are either 10 or 12 mm. Remove air shroud from around radiator and fan.
Sometimes its easier to remove fan too.

If its an automatic, remove 2 rubber hoses at bottom of rad.

remove 4 bolts top and bottom that hold rad. in place.

reverse order of parts. Fill with coolant and check for leaks.

That is the basics of it.
