Starter drags MY STARTER DRAGS,COULD THIS BE FROM A WEAK BATTERY OR IS THE STARTER GOING BAD ?

  • Anonymous Jun 21, 2008

In the past 5 years I have gone through 5 new batteries. It will randomly refuse to start when I need it most. Since retirement I don't drive the Jeep very much, or often. It has been towed in many times and nobody can find the problem. I drive it, on average, about once every two weeks. Could something be draining the batter in that short period of time? 5 batteries, new cables, etc. The problem persists. My mechanic said I don't drive it enough to keep it charged up. After a 270 mile trip, I shut the engine off. A few minutes later, tried to start it and it was dead. So, not driving it enough does not seem to be the problem. Any help?

2007 Honda odyssey is slow to start, cranks very slow. try again it will crank but drags.all lights on dash are on and bright.will do nothing , then turn on again will star but drags.

I would check volts of battery. Clean connections to battery and starter solenoid. You may have 12 volts going to the starter but if you have bad connections you may not be getting the amps to spin starter faster. could be starter or solenoid but I would clean connection and make sure your ground wires are also clean and tight for good connection.

I have a 1998 gmc sierra 4*4 5.0L automatic . New

every thing you did is about supplying power to the starter and nothing about checking the ground circuit. check the ground circuit as you may find the problem there.

Starter works fine sometimes.......then drags badly at other times. Starter and battery and all related wiring are new

if your starter is new & your new stater drags, then you might need to take your car in to get your starter fixed or you might have to take your car in to get your car to get re booted. something could of happend after they put the new wires in and after they put your new battery in your car

94 jeep hard to start like battery is weak

starter cannot act good if it does not spin the engine over quickly with new battery
pull it for a bench test under load
check and clean terminals and check for good ground point

Drags when starting

Sounds like a weak starter or battery.....have the battery tested if its good have the starter tested.

My guess would be soon to be bad starter

95 monte carlo LS, 3.1L does not start despite new parts

With new Battery and Starter, and still drags -
Check ALL connections and cables for corrosion. That includes the BATTERY to GROUND connection. Make sure the Cables themseleves are not corroded. Sometimes corrosion builds up inside the cable.
