At the bottom of the column is a box that has a rod that runs down the column for the ignition switch to this box see if it is loose or not working.

Key wont turn in ignition. Dont want to hear the key is bent. Tried everything to get it to turn, but wont. It happened earlier today and after 20 minutes of giggling the key it finally turned over. ...

The problem can only be one of three things. Steering column, ignition or key. When there is tension on the steering wheel it will prevent the key from turning. If the linkage in your ignition is bad it will prevent it from turning. If your key looks worn or marred (it doesn't always have to be bent) it wont turn.

My steering wheel is stuck and when I put my key in it won't turn either. It starts to turn but won't go all the way

hi,it maybe a good idea to remove the steering collum covers to visually inspect it can be the ignition bolt just being loose or the steering lock or ignition it self is on its way out.

MY KEY WONT TURN ONCES ITS IN THE IGNITON

try turning the steering wheel and key at the same time or look on the steering wheel collume for a button to push or push the and turn the key. it kinda seems like the lock is stuck or worn out witch means that the ignition switch should be replaced.

I lost my keys to my 96 dodge dakota so i tried to forcefully use a screwdriver to start it resulting in a busted ignition i can get it to turn to the point of starting but the starter isnt turning over...

you will have to take the steering wheel off and the steering collum apart to find the rod that actuates the real ignition switch..the thing you stick your key in..is not really the ignition switch....its just a key tumbler..and it would be best that a professional replace the key tumbler..because it is difficult to drill out..i know this isnt what you wanted to hear..but i hope it helps

Please help

remove the cowling around the steering wheel place the key into the ignition, you should be able to find a small pin hole on the side of the ignition barrel get a strong pin or pick and push it into the hole with the ignition turned to acc then pull the key the barrel should then pull out of the steraring collum.

if the reson you are replacing the ignition is that the key wont turn you will have to replace the holl igition set up which means you will have to pull the stearing wheel off and stearing collum out of the car (IF YOU HAVE SRS AIR BAGS DISCONECT THE BATTERY AND LEAVE THE CAR TO SIT FOR 5 MINUTS)
( UNDER THE STEARING WHEEL IS A ITEM CALLED A CLOCK SPRING DO NOT MOVE THIS YOU WILL RECONISE IT WHEN YOU SEE IT, MAKE SHOUR THE WHEELS ARE IN THE STRAIGHT AHEAD POITION BEFOR COMENCING THIS PROCEDURE. IF YOU MOVE THE CLOCK SPING YOU MAY DAMAGE IT AND CAUSE HUNDREDS OF DOLLERS WERTH OF DAMAGE)
once the collum is out you will need a center punch and hammer to slowley turn the 3 shear off bolts that hold the ignition,
remove old ignition and fit new shear the heads off the new bolts and refite the collum and steearing wheel to car.

( please if you are not shore that you can do this procedure take it to a qualifide tecnishion as the air bag system can be very dangeruse)

good luck

IGNITION KEY DOESN'T WORK

You accidently tripped the anti theft deterrent that lock the whole ignition system when the worng key or a foriegn object is inserted into the slot. The only way to fix this, is to have it taken to a ford repair shop, since they will probably have to replace the whole steering collum.
