The timing marks match on the crank and the cams, match with the marks on chain but the little chain behind that does not match with the marks on the chain, and the car only has 57000 miles on it. it also has a code of random misfirer, replaced coil and plugs. what to do next?

Check the Crank position sensor. If that sensor is sending bad signal it will cause the coil pack to fire at the wrong time and that will give you the misfire detected problem. Also, check the injectors, if one isn't firing like it should your getting no fuel in the cylinder.

the crank saft sensor did not fix it, know what?

  • Anonymous Oct 29, 2010

If the Crank position sensor is good and the coil pack is good then the timing has to be off or the injectors are malfunctioning. Check your injectors, make sure they are clean and functioning properly. Double check the wiring for the coil pack(s) and plug wires again to make sure they are functioning and correctly connected in the proper firing order, you also need to check the Spark plugs to make sure the plugs are properly gaped.

How to correct plated links not aligning on timing gears 05 3.8 grand caravan

The marks on the chain are for your convenience i.e. no need to count links between crank and cam(s).

The chain markings shift depending on the number of links in the chain and number of teeth on the crank and cam gears, but the number of links (rotational distance) between crank and cams remains the same.

Once you turn the crank it it may take dozens of revolutions to sync back to the marks on the chain, unless you reverse the same number of revolutions.

So if you want to recheck timing after multiple crank revolutions, you need to count links from crank to cam and cam to cam or redo the timing procedure.

Think of it this way... you could stretch a chain around the moon and timing will be good but it will take hundreds of thousands of revolutions before the marks return to earth and likely still not in sync with gear marks.

In the old small block days no one counted links because crank and cam gears were adjacent, in the same planes and timing intuitive.

Does the 2005 Nissan Xtrail 2.2 diesel have TDC timing mark on the crank pulley

All crankshaft pulleys have a timing mark. However, the actual marks can be different between manufacturers. Some have a notch cut on the rim of the pulley others have an arrow or a Dot stamped or moulded on the face of the pulley.
If your replacing a belt, line up the Cam marks and carefully examine the Crank pulley. You should be able to find the marks for the pulley and it's matching mark on the engine block. Some timing chains use marks on the pulley and marked links on the actual chain. I think yours might be a plain round dot or dimple on the raised face nearest the chain teeth.
*Note* The matching crank marks might not be at TDC on the actual pulley.
Some pulleys are stamped with extra marks to help set the advance and retard on the engine. Give the face of the pulley a good clean with a wire brush as sometimes dirt and surface rust can hide the mark.

Timing marks are not lining up when turning over the eng

Timing belt or chain?
If you have chain align the dark mark of the chain to gear marks and release the tentioner . after you turn one time the mark wont match to the chain for long time.
if you have belt. the marks are on the dots on the head and block and will match every second turn on crankshaft
after you install belt/chain turn with hand ,don't start till you're sure the piston don't touch the valve .
with chain you can mark a dot on the block and head with marker to see if will come back to the same spot on same time crank and cam but is not accurate .
good luck

Timming chain broke

place no 1 piston at TDC compression stroke. There are procedures for the timing of the balance shafts but if it is only the timing chain I will go to that
Align uniquely coloured chain link with intake camshaft sprocket timing mark-- INT--. ( this will be pointing at the 2 o'clock position)
install timing chain and sprocket as an assembly
align first matching coloured chain link crankshaft timing mark (5 o'clock position)
align the second matching coloured chain link with exhaust cam shaft timing mark--EXH ( at the 11 o'clock position
There is a special procedure to reset the balance tensioner and it is different to the timing chain procedure.

To reset cam shaft timing chain tensioner push piston fully and turn clockwise until locked
Once the tensioner has been compressed ensure the distance from end to end is 2.83 inches . If not repeat the resetting process
vehicles 30.000 miles the tensioner is released when the engine is first started . In vehicles over 30.000 miles manually release tensioner by tapping the plunger
Note cam shaft and crank shaft sprockets bolts MUST only be used once. If you want details on the balancer chain procedure then make a comment in the box
use tension wrench and a degree gauge
cam bolts are tensioned to 63 ft lbs + 30 degrees
crank shaft pulley is tensioned to 74 ft lbs + 75 degrees

Where are the timing marks on a 2004 honda accord 4cyl with a timing chain?

there are lines on the cams that need to line up with each other in the center and there is a mark for the crank gear that you line up with the little triangle mark behind it.If you line up the white mark on the crank pulley and have the valve cover off so you can make sure you dont have the engine 180 out and dont move anything once you remove the tensioner you should do fine.
