First thing's first; make sure that the routing diagram is still on the pickup. There's a sticker on the front under the hood that describes the way that the belt goes on. If you can't read it, then draw a diagram of how the current belt goes BEFORE you remove it. Next, look at the AC belt. It's a separate belt that is down towards the bottom. If it needs replacing, now is the time, because you have to take the main belt off in order to do so. Next, find the tensioner. If you're not sure which pulley it is, look for a black plastic pulley. If you see more than one, yank on the fan belt and see which one moves laterally. Put a box end wrench or a ratchet and socket on the bolt in the middle of the pulley. It should move clockwise(otherwise you're removing the bolt). This will allow the belt to loosen. While it is loose, slip the belt off the water pump pulley. This is the smooth black pulley, about 4-5" in diameter. Once you have this complete, you can release the pressure on the idler pulley, and remove the belt. Next, route the new belt, and put it on in the same way that you removed the old one. That's it!

Mike, the belt routing should be on a sticker under your hood, these use a spring belt tensioner and it is easiest to us a 3/8 or 1/2 breakover to pull the tensioner back then the belt is easily removed and replaced, please do not rate me at all if it is not a fixya, thats the only reason do this is for my score. Thanks, and merry Christmas.

You must remove the fan belt first by wrenching the spring loaded tightener and the same must be done for the compressor belt.

Every car is slightly different, but it sounds like you have a car that DOES NOT have a serpentine belt -- a single belt that drives everything. So, that's why they asked if you had A/C. It matters if you do have a serpentine belt, or if the belt that drives the alternator also drives the A/C. Anyway, some cars have a tensioner pulley that must be loosened, while some use the alternator to hold the belt in place. So, you'll need to loosen something -- most likely the alternator, which will remove the tension. Then you put the new belt on (make sure the new one is the same size as the old one!), use the alternator, or tensioner to provide tension, and re-tighten.

under the hood is a sticker - or better yet - take the vin to the dealer - they will give you a free print out or even email or fax it to you.
Best of it.

The belt has tension applied to it from an idler pulley arm. you need to release tension by using a socket and ratchet on the nut on the idler pulley. Release tesion and slide belt off . Make sure you have the diagram for serpentine belt. it is usualy under the hood. If not make a diagram yorself before removing belt.
