We are trying to put gas in the tank of a 92 Buick Roadmaster and it keeps spitting out of the filler tube. The guage is broken so we dont know exactly how much gas is in there, but we know it isnt full but when we try to put say 5 gallons in ....it wont go in the filler tube, just starts to spit like the tank is full...but we know it is not....what could the problem be?

There\'s a blockage in the secondary tube (about 15mm diameter) that runs down to the tank, adjacent to the main filler tube. Take the back wheel off and you\'ll see a plastic cover over the whole filler neck assembly. The secondary tube often rust and fills with dirt. The tube can get damaged too, if crushed the gas will spit back.
The vent tube for the gas tank and filler neck is probably clogged or pinched shut. If you get under the car and look at the filler neck you should see a 2nd tube coming off of it, that is the vent tube.
sounds like your breather tube on your gas tank filler tube is clogged when you look at where you fill your tank youll see a little small hole next to the filler tube that is a hose that lets your tank breathe chances are it is plugged

WOO stop there is a major recall with the 05 durangos the check valves get stuck they are recalling the gas tanks on thousands of those car. that is a big fire hazard. Go to the dealer I garente ur vehcle is recalled u may have not gotten the notice in the mail yet. Please rate if this helps.
Here is a copy of the dealer recall notice.
2005 (HB) Dodge Durango
NOTE: This recall applies only to the above vehicles built from October 13, 2004
through November 30, 2004 (MDH101300 through 113023).
The fuel tank inlet check valve on about 18,900 of the above vehicles may stick in
the open position. This can cause fuel to spill out of the filler tube when the
vehicle is being refueled. Fuel in the presence of an ignition source can result in a
fire.
The fuel tank inlet check valve must be tested for proper operation. Vehicles with
a sticking check valve must have the fuel tank replaced.
Every gas tank has a vent tube, so when you fill the tank, air can escape, while the fuel is being pumped into the tank. Some vent tubes are metal, some rubber. Yours is either collapsed or plugged up. Look at the fill tube in the firebird and follow it from the gas cap to the tank, there should be a 2nd smaller tube that is your vent tube. Check to see if it's collapsed, pinched, or bent. This is definitely your problem. Check out this web site for pictures of different fill and vent tubes to get an idea of what to look for. Good luck let me know how you make out. Curt http://www.carparts.com/REPLACEMENT-GAS-TANK-FILLER-NECK/GP_2005706_N__10618.car
I know EXACTLY what the problem is. You are not alone. Many Buick Roadmasters had this problem. Its in your fuel tank. The fuel bob gets stuck and even sometimes in the filter it cuts off the gas to prevent strong acceleration. This is not a cheap fix unless you do it yourself. The gas tank either needs to be removed or cut open. This is coming from a prior Buick Roadmaster driver. Call your Buick dealer, they can help you out.
It was the problem I had with mine and two others . The fuel filter in the tank is clogged it lays very close to the botten of the tank sucks up a lot of residue.
