I had no problems with shifting my car into gear, but I went to it a couple days ago and would not move from Park. I tried the override to see if it would move but it still wouldn't work. Any suggestions.

The problem is in the brake switch. You have to have the brake pressed to get it out of park. When this switch goes bad then it doesn't think that the brake is being pressed. You will have to replace the switch. It is located on the top of the brake pedal up under the dash.

2007 Impala stuck in park and gear override silver button won't work. Can't figure out the problem please help

If your 2007 Impala is stuck in park and the gear override silver button doesn't work, there may be a few potential problems that are causing the problem. Here are some common causes and troubleshooting solutions you can try: Brake light switch: The most common cause of this problem is a faulty brake light switch. The brake light switch is responsible for sending a signal to the shift interlock solenoid to release the shifter when the brake pedal is depressed and can prevent the shifter from releasing if the switch does not operate properly. Make sure your brake lights work by pressing on the brake pedal. If they don't work, it's probably a brake light switch issue that needs to be replaced. Shift Interlock Solenoid: The shift interlock solenoid is a mechanism that prevents the shifter from moving without pressing the brake pedal If the solenoid is faulty or a blown fuse can cause the shifter to go into park. Check the fuse connected to the shift interlock system and replace if necessary. If the fuse is good, the solenoid may need to be replaced. Shift Cable: The shift cable connects the shifter to the transmission and allows you to change gears. Damaged, loose, or misaligned cables can prevent the shifter from leaving the parking space. Inspect the shift cable for any obvious issues and make sure it is securely attached to the shifter and transmission. Shift lock control module: Some vehicles have a shift lock control module that ensures proper operation of the shift interlock system. Malfunction of this module can cause the problem. It may be necessary to use a diagnostic scan tool to check for any error codes associated with the module. Ignition switch: Faulty ignition under certain conditions

How to put 2007 Chrysler300 gear into natural when the car battery is dead and the key stopped working

If you're unable to push the gear shift into neutral in a 2007 Chrysler 300 when the car battery is dead and the key has stopped working, there is a solution that can help. You can locate the shift interlock override mechanism to manually put the vehicle into neutral. First, remove the plastic cover or cap located near the gear lever to reveal the shift interlock override slot. Insert a small screwdriver or a similar tool into the slot and apply gentle pressure while simultaneously attempting to move the gear lever into neutral. This should release the shift interlock mechanism and allow you to shift the car into neutral. It's important to exercise caution and consult the vehicle's manual for precise instructions tailored to your specific model, as the process may vary slightly.

2002 thunderbird gear shift override button location

There is no "gearshift override button" If the gear shift cannot be moved from PARK whith the key on and the brake pedal depressed, turn the key to the LOCK position and remove the key. Then re-insert the key and turn it one "click" to the OFF position (if the instrument cluster lights up, you turned it too far). The shifter will then be able to move. Place the shifter in NEUTRAL and hold the service brake while starting the engine. The shifter can then be moved to any position desired. If it is placed in PARK, you will have to repeat the procedure to get it going again.

Also, you should check your brake lamps. The shift interlock is probably not working properly due to a problem with your brake lamp circuit.

2002 Kia Spectra stuck gear shift

Sounds like you need a new shifter assembly, or the brake switch. Most likely will be the shifter though if you can move it out of park with the override.

GEAR STUCK ON PARK AND WON'T MOVE

I think your brake shift interlock solenoid is not releasing the Park position when you apply the brake.

Check for a blown fuse first. see owner manual for location of fuse.

Also, check owner manual for how to manually bypass the interlock.

When you step on the brake pedal, it activates a solenoid that unlocks the shift linkage cable so it will move. It is a safety feature to ensure you have you foot on the brake and not the gas, as you shift out of park.

please rate highly if this helps.

Transmission with codes P0218 P0732 P0733 P0740 P0846 P1790

I agree, this is a lot of codes. I would tend to think this would be electrical, perhaps computer are a loose connection? These trannys I have rebuilt so far usually have a couple of codes related to the problem but not this many - all over the place.

2006 Dodge Charger stuck in Park.

10591.jpg In the event of an electrical failure, the vehicle can be shifted out of PARK by using the following procedure.
1. Turn the key to the ACC or ON position. 2. Remove the liner to the cubby bin to the right side of the shifter. 3. Depress the BTSI override (2) on the side of the shifter assembly (1). 4. While the override is depressed, move the shifter out of the PARK position. 5. Return the cubby bin liner to its original location.

SAAB 2002 93 automatic gear stuck

you have to push your shift override button? Your cable that runs from your ignition/steering column to your shift knob could be worn and therefore loose not allowing the car the be shifted out of park (as if your key weren't in the ignition). Hope this helps
