Try to look for a screw 'stop' for controlling the angle of the opening of the throttle plate on the carburetor. Adjust this screw to keep the engine from stopping while at idle.

My break lights wont turn off

It sounds like either the brake light switchis out of adjustment or the awitch has failed and is stuck on. The switch is located under the dash near the top of the brahe pedal arm. To replace, diisconnect the plug that connects the wiring to the switch., loosen locknut and unscrew the switch from the mounting bracket. Installation is the reverse procedure. Adjust by screwing switch until operating plunger is fully depressed without moving pedal arm and then tightening lock nut. Chec k that lights operate when pedal depressed and extinguish when pedal released.

Why would the engine engage when the clutch pedal is almost all the way out? The car is 1991 corolla and the clutch fluid reservoir has needed to be refilled several times.

Sounds like you are loosing fluid because of a leaking slave cylinder or slave master cylinder. Air is probably entering the system through the leak, causing a weak clutch pedal, or your clutch plate is worn and also needs replacing. Have them both inspected and replaced if necessary.

My toyota has a hard start every morning and i have to crank ir like 5 times while pressing down on the gas...... what could be the problem

next time do this:
before starting press down fully on your gas pedal, about one or two seconds, then release.
now start your engine.
you're welcome.
what this does has something to do about the autochoke or something, my mechanic tells me. anyway, it works for my carbed 1999 corolla.

1984 toyota corolla 1.6 engine. How do i adjust

Carbureted models have a fast idle cam on the throttle,It is a screw that sets against a movable part, called the cam, when the engine heats up,the cam will drop upon tapping the gas pedal.Set the carb, while the engine is cold,by tapping the gas pedal, then adjust the fast idle cam screw by turning it in,with the engine running.Start out by turning the screw in a full turn before starting engine so it will run, then adjust the screw as the engine runs.

I have a 1991 toyota corolla sr5 SW with standard tranny . Lately it is sometimes very hard to shift into second and sometimes third. From first to second , it sticks and makes a snapping sound.

You may be able to fix this by adjusting the clutch pedal height. There is an adjustment rod at the top of the clutch pedal under the dash. Loosen the jam nut and turn the push rod to lengthen it. Retighten the jam nut and test drive the vehicle.

Clutch problem

Its is totally acceptable to reuse a flywheel as long as it was machined to where a new finish was achieved.A machine shop will cut off about .020"-.050" to achieve a new, machined finsih.Same concept as turning brake rotors when performing a brake job.Have the clutch hydraulics checked,as this is what applies and releases the clutch when actuating the pedal. The clutch pedal engagement point is also adjustable up under the dash. One thing to remember when driving a manual trans vehicle is,for example, when sitting at a stop light.apply the brake and sit still.I can't tell you how many times i've seen people sit at a stop light, and rock the vehicle back and forth by applying then relasing the clutch pedal, causing the vehicle to pull forward a couple feet, then roll back a couple feet, pull forward, and roll back. This severely shortens the lifespan of the clutch,as it gets TOO hot.If at a traffic light, just apply the brake and sit still. There are correct and incorrect ways to drive a manual trans vehicle, all of which is determinate of how long the clutch will last.

Stalling

Good Day,

There could be several causes for this. If I were you the first thing I would check is the timing. If the timing is off enough it could cause this. After timing is checked and/or adjusted the next thing I would check the MAP(Manifold Absolute Pressure) Sensor. I can't remeber if a 91 is fuel injected or carburated, but if it is carburated I would check the carb jets and up the idle adjustment just to see how it would run. Do you have a check engine light on in the car? If you do it's more than likely a sensor either the MAP or TPS(throttle position sensor). If you do not have a check engine light on it's got be timing or something else mechanically.

Here's a place to start.
Let me know about the check engine light and I can assist further.

Hope this helps
