Im guessing this is an automatic, theres a trany dipstick, engine should be at operating temp and the truck level remove the dip stick and wipe clean then reinsert and pull out the fluid should be in the hass maxs. if this truck is manual trans then the trany is checked from under the truck, remove the fill plug on the side of the trany and fill unttil oil runs out the fill hole. hope this helps.

If it's automatic, with you facing the engine, it is a gray pull stick on the left side of the engine close to the firewall and valve cover.

SOURCE: where do you add transmission

Im guessing this is an automatic, theres a trany dipstick, The dipstick is located underneath the air filter. Take off the air filter cover. With you facing the engine, it is a gray pull stick on the left side of the engine close to the firewall and valve cover. And remove the dip stick out and fill the fluid till it reaches till top. Then reinsert and see the fluid level on dipstick. It should be in the maximum level. If this truck is manual trans then, Manual trans DOES NOT have a dipstick. There is a fill plug on the left side or the trans about half way up from the bottom. You pull the plug. If fluid drains out, you are full. If no fluid drain, you need to add fluid. There is a fluid filling access located on the lateral external side of the transmission box. It needs an Allen key, and the screw itself is half moon shaped inside and indicates the level of fluid that has to be normally FLUSH with the hole.
Fill up until it starts spilling.-------------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

2001 Nissan Frontier XE V6 3.3L 4x4 Acceleration problem?

Depends but sounds like one of two things to me. First and foremost it sounds like a bad torque converter. Was this replaced with OEM or upgrade when the engine and trans was done? Have you check the transmission fluid? Is it the proper fluid? Proper fluid is extremely important in proper operation and 99% of the time people put the wrong fluid in. It could also be a transmission filter whether external or internal unfortunately.... does it show any check engine lights? I would imagine if it did you would have posted that because I've seen mass air flow sensors make cars act weird like that but to be honest it sounds more like a transmission issue.

How to change transmission fluid on 98 nissan frontier?

Thank you for using FixYa and welcome to the site. You have a drain plug that is on the outside of the transmission. Take that out and let it drain until fully empty. Refer to your owner manual for the proper quarts to be added to your vehicle. You will add the fluid into the dip stick tube. Thanks very much for choosing FixYa.
