I have a 2006 TL in which the battery goes dead if car not used for a period of time (eg 1 week). Dealer told us to lock it no matter what to reduce drain and that drain would otherwise occur due to the nature of the electrical system and security systems. This seemed to help somewhat but had a dead battery again this week even with doors locked. The HFL in our car does not work and shows 'booting up' when activation is attempted. Is the HFL the likely source of the problem. If so, how would I test it to see if that is the problem?

First step is to have a load test done on the battery as batteries have a natural tendency to self discharge especially if a bit old
next is to have an auto electrician place an amp meter in the ground circuit to check the current flow that is causing the drain
it could be a faulty relay, glove box light , boot light but generally the very small drain to run immobilizers ,and the ecm will not affect a good battery as it is the regions of millionths of amps ( miliamps)

SOURCE: Intermittent Power Loss

There are many things it could be but a few suggestions are to have the battery load checked (battery could be faulty), check for broken or corrosion wires, check fuses inside power distribution box (loose or corroded connections), and see if there might be an association with the ignition switch and your power lose. I dont think it applies to your issue but its not unheard of to have a faulty ignition switch. Good luck.

SOURCE: I just had my battery

Its a security code for unlock the audio system; check in the l?ast pages from the owners manual (any similar card with the unlock code) or with the VIN number, visit your dealer. Remember that this is one unique number for each audio system, anybody can send this info for Internet, then this "security" word dont work for your or other owners.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

2006 Pontiac Grand Prix, no crank. Info center reads low fuel, half of the fuse box under the hood has no voltage.

That sounds very strange. Sounds like you have a flat battery. What is the battery voltage from the positive terminal to a grounded bolt on the engine or chassis? It sounds like you may have parasitic draw where something is draining power when the ignition switch is supposed to be off? Ignition switch wrong type or mis-wired possibly? You need a good auto electrician with a pro grade scan tool computer, and the ability to read factory wiring diagrams.

2003 tribute is locking out ignition...Rear hatch stopped engaging two weeks ago but ignition problems only now have begun...disconnected battery to reset..

As far as shifting goes it could be the key if you have a spare key try it. I have had some odd thing occur due to battery or alternator problems. I had a 2006 which the steering assist motor, A/C and interior lights quit working. The dealer wanted 800 dollars to fix but I couldn't pay so I had to wait. Two days later the battery was dead in my car. I put a new battery in it and all the problems went away. I had a 94 which acted up when you came to a stop and sometimes the speed ohmmeter would read more than 20 mph while stopped at a red light. A guy at a dealership told me to change the alternator, I did and the problems were solved. I have had the transmission quit shifting due to a electrical sensor. Were I live auto part stores will check your battery voltage which is usually around 13 V. Then you crank the car and they can tell you what your alternator is putting out. That is what I would do first.

DEAD BATTERY IN 2006 CHEV EQUINOX

I am sorry to say it is going to be very tough to find the problem.
Today's cars and trucks are full of electronics that can cause a small drain at random times. Your truck probably has a dozen relays or more.
The only way to make sure the battery is up when you need it is to install a disconnect switch to cut the connection. But this is going to be a hassle in the case of that short trip.
The problem could be in the alternator, or any number of components. Even the body computer could do it.
One possible source is the module that keeps the accessory power on if your truck has it. On some cars and trucks you can play the radio even after you turn the key off until you open the door. That module can fail and never shut off.

Battery goes flat from time to time. battery ok charging rate ok.after going flat trickle charge for less than half an hour and it will start.m/b dealer thought it was tailgate lock 200 pounds later it was...

this is a hard one, the battery goes dead from time to time, youll have to keep an out for lights staying on, a brake switch that stick sometimes, could be a radio shoting or a cd player drawing volts with key off, best way is to hook battery to a draw tester ,see if it drawing then start removing fuses one at a time to try and pinpoint the system thats drawing. if battery is charged and removed from car for a week will it go dead? ive had cars with bad batteries that had the same symptons.

Purchased a 2009 Murano S. When the car is not

In that case, whenever u take it for a ride and return to your nest, lift the hood and disconnect the battery terminal which I would recommend having a clip(spring loaded clamps with metal jaws) removed from the battery. Next time you use it, first reattach the clamps to the batter, and start normally.......sodeep
