Well, the po401 is saying is that the egr valve has restricted flow. After changing the egr and the tube, something else is causing the restriction. a more thorough diagnosis is recommended. The po420 code sounds like a possible catalyst failure or an o2 sensor failure.

i don't have the po420 anymore since i replaced the egr valve. i just want the po401 repaired now.

Have the scanner hooked back up and see what the code stands for again. It sounds like something more might be causing that code to reappear. You are going to have to go deeper into the diagnosis to see why that code keeps appearing.

Code po401

A code P0401 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
  • The DPFE (differential pressure feedback EGR) sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced
  • There is a blockage in the EGR (tube), most likely carbon buildup
  • The EGR valve is faulty
  • The EGR valve may not be opening due to a lack of vaccuum
Possible SolutionsIn fixing this code, it is quite common for people to just replace the EGR valve only to have the OBD code return. The EGR valve is not always the culprit.
  • Use a vacuum pump and pull the EGR valve open while monitoring engine RPM'sicon1.png & DPFE voltage. There should be a noticable difference in RPM's with the EGR open
  • Clean out the EGR valve and/or tubing to remove deposits
  • Check the voltage at the DPFE, compare to specified values (refer to a repair manual for your specific model)
  • Replace the DPFE sensor (with a good quality / OEM one)
  • Replace the EGR valve

Can someone please help me???? i keep getting code po401, insufficient egr flow. i have replaced the catalytic converter, egr valve, egr tube, and have tried running cleaner through. it sounds a little...

It may be the vapor canister. It is filled with charcoal and the vapors from the fuel system are sucked through it. If the diaphragm in it ruptures, you will get charcoal powder sucked into the egr system. You can clear it out and it will just **** some more in. If you remove the canister and any powder comes out of any of the hose fittings, it is bad.

Can someone please help me figure out why i have a po401 diagnstic code? i have already changed the egr valve and egr tube. what can it be? it's killing my gas mileage.

problem is usually a deteriorated vacuum line, the hard part is finding the hose. You can go to a TRUSTED garage and have a smoke machine find the leak. Trusted is they will find the vacuum line for about $40, untrustworthy will have you replace every sensor on the the car.

I have a 97 chevy lumina ls car. i am getting the code po401. i have brainstormed around the egr area, but haven't solved it yet. what do you think the problem is?

Could be a dirty EGR pintle passage area.
This is a common problem where carbon builds up and causes a code to trip.

A DTC trouble code P0401 which is insufficient EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) flow.

OBD code P04001 Insufficient flow, I changed the

did you clean the EGR passages? take the valve back off. one hole will have exhaust, the other should have strong vacuum.ususally the passage gets plugged with carbon, from the valve to where it goes into the intake manifold. you may take a wire and carb cleaner to clean the passage.

1996 toyota camery code po401

Clean the EGR air passage tube.

Carbon built up is worst inside this air passage tube.

You will need Seafoam or WD-40 and LOT OF TIME to clean out this tube.

A vacuum will help speed up the cleaning.
