Hi, I have a 1992 Toyota 4runner, new 2.8L Diesel engine, with turbo installed in it. It also has a lift kit with fairly large tyres fitted. My question is, is there a reason to why the car feels very underpowered when going up hill? And what can i do to solve the issue.

No. engine mounts, electrics, ecu, axels and a whole lot of other stuff would need to be changed and cut and welded.even after that you could have a host of other difficulties. not an easy task for even the experienced engineer.

Actually a 2.8 diesel should be fairly weak on hills, especially if this is an automatic transmission.
You could check the fuel filter, or change to lower profile tires that give more power, but really turbo charging is the best way to really get lots of power out of such a small diesel.
Diesels not only have less hp then petrol engines, but also a narrower torque range.

is it the primming pump? if so replace it if its the the injection pump it may have to be removed and send to a service centre for repair. to save time and money you can look for a junk town ace with engine intact and take the pump from that once its ok
