I have a 1991 GMC truck with a 5.7 liter. The engine will crank but it will not start. It will run for a few seconds but then stalls out even with enough fuel in the tank. I have replaced the plugs, wires and fuel filter. The only time the motor starts is when I put fuel into the carb but it only runs for a few seconds.

Can the truck idle if you keep your foot slightly pressing on the gas pedal while cranking? If so you need to clean or replace your idle air control valve.

scotty (now rich)
says do this if it cranks but does not start
Using excessive fuel cleaner can damage injectors and the fuel pump - sounds like your problem is the fuel pump bearings, and you will probably have to have it replaced.
Sounds like TPS sensor. If you replaced the TPS sensor you have to put a relearn program on it again to calibrate the sensor. If you don't have a programmer or know someone you have to take it to a shop and have it done takes literally 5 min
even though parts are new they also come with defects so it sounds as if when you turn the key you hear it working and other times not at all hmmm connections are tight ? could be faulty fuel pump or relay .
Yes the trans can wipe out the crank bearings or the spacer behind the crank(forget what its called) it can let the flexplate move and the bolts can hit. That may be what your hearing. Does it still have good oil pressure?
TRY THIS BEFORE U SPEND ANYMORE MONEY N PARTS. Here is the common cause of surges, stalls at stops, slow idle speed, erratic idle speed, rough idle and engine hesitation (and other problems), it is in most cases the idle speed control air-bypass valve and or throttle valve and upper intake, these area's get full of gunk and combustion residue over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls, low idle) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake
my dad used to say you need two things to start a motor; gas and fire. Check these and make sure they are both good. You have to go through the steps from there. Could be a fuel filter. could be bad plugs. etc. etc... Hope it helps.
