Question about 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Will a faulty MAP Sensor on a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee cause problems with the Idle Air Control System? I am getting a P0505 diagnostic code and have changed the Idle Air Control Motor. Still receiving the P0505 code and have cleaned the Intake Maniford and trouble shot the electrical connections between the ECU and the IAC and have not found any problems.

check for open or shortened conditions in the idle air control motor curcuits.if you have done all of that and it is running fine i would jus erase the check engine code with a diagnostics scanner.from what i have researched on the 98 jeep grand cherokees after the vehicle has been crunk up 40 times sence the repair it will turn off if the problem is resovled if it stays on jus double check every connection and around and to the idle air control system

I would check Cam Position Sensor as is directly related with ignition. Power loss is due to the ECU going on "limp mode" to prevent further damage.
I hope this helps!

it could be a problem with the wiring with the sensor. You would need a multi-meter to check the wiring. Diagnostics cannot tell if the sensor is bad, only that the information sent does not agree with what should be reported.

My 1998 jeep grand cherokee will cut on and 5 seconds later, it will cut off??? any suggestions? and i looked on some forums and thought it could be the O2 sensor or crankshaft sensor?

It is also a possibility. Check if you have rough idling when you do get the engine running and check if can keep it running if you step on the gas. You may have a dirty idle air control valve. Check also for loose vacuum lines and wiring as well. If you have a spare carb cleaner, have it sprayed in to the intake of the engine while revving. There might be just dirt in the system or the MAF sensor.

If you can, have a scanner connected to the car. It may have errors stored in its computer.

first will say that you have a good amount of gas in the tank.second o2 sensor does not contol idle or does the map sensor.the tps sensor and if it has a idle air motor.they can control idle other than the computer.

Have you checked the coolant temp sensor. They also have something called a MAP(manifold absolute pressure) sensor that could be causing this issue. This sensor will have a 4 pin connector and 1 vacuum line going to it. Should be on the firewall, just behind the engine.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Keeps stalling, engine

P0505 means the whole Idle Control system, not only the IAM. Check all related sensors (i.e. crankshaft sensor). Check with a voltmeter direct at the connector of the IAM if you get any signal. Remove the IAM from the TB, connect him, let someone switch your ignition key to ON. The IAM need to drive in/out for a short time to find the right position. Hold the IAM near a hard part, that they cant drive out completely! If IAM works fine, check the fuel pressure, check and clean your TB ( if not done yet). If that doesn't work, come back again please

That error code is idle control system malfunction.  You need to replace your idle air controller (IAC). IAC basically opens and closes the throttle at idle so it stays at constants RPM.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.
