There is a small metal clip on the pad that is made to come into contact with the rotor. Just to make that screeching noise, to tell you it's time to change the pads...before they damage your rotors.

2014 Chevy Cruze. The cost of front brakes and rotors please?

About Brake Pad Replacement Please note: Pricing shown is for either front brakes or rear brakes. Made of ceramic, organic or metallic material, brake pads squeeze against the brake disc rotors to slow the vehicle down. Every time you apply the brakes, the pads wear down a tiny bit. Eventually a wear indicator starts squeaking to tell you it's time to replace the brake pads. It's always better to replace the pads before they start squeaking, to avoid damaging the brake rotors. A mechanic can check brake pad thickness during a tire rotation or other service. The number of miles you can go before replacing the brake pads really depends on your driving style.

My 2000 Dodge caravan's brakes are screeching after I changed them. Its only been 2 months since I changed them and its becoming very annoying. Changed the brakes and brake pads.

did you apply the brake pad anti squeal grease it should be applied generously to back of brake pads & also where brake calipers where brake pads will travel as they wear in some cases hard lifetime brake pads usually bmw/other german vehicles will simply squeal unless you install softer &wont last as long but im sure that brake grease will solve your noise issue you should have got a small tube where you purchased the brake pads !

Screeching metallic noise front wheel

Look for brake pads grinding the brake rotor. It could be the "screamer" which is a small metal part that contacts the brake rotor telling you the pads are worn. Hopefully it hasn't ruined the brake rotor.

2007 chevy malibu...was having screeching/whining noise from front drivers wheel, usuallly when braking. i changed rotors and brake liners. now have screeching/whining when just driving, brakes are...

hhmm... I hate trying to diagnose brake issues online,,, there are so many variables.. you installed new pads and rotors...and the noise is constant now... (Wished you lived near me)... sounds like you may have pushed too much brake fluid back out of the master cyl. reservoir...bleeding ABS brakes is harder than regular brakes,,
... Bleeding ABS Brake Systems
after reading this.. take a look at your system,,, see if anything relates and you can fix it,, please reply to me on here.. thanks

I just got an estimate have all 4 rotars "machined" and brake pads replaced - parts and labor were quoted at $542.40. Does this seem like a fair price.

These parts are brand new from autozone...Front brake rotor=90.00 for 2...rear rotor=60.00 for 2.....brake pads front=30.00/set...brake pads rear = 25.00/set...total = 205.00 parts
so the labor is 337.40....and the parts I looked up are not machined but NEW!!!...maybe you should do the work yourself....337 seems like alot of money....I do brakes for $50.00 labor per axle...especially if you are replacing all the parts...it's not very hard to accomplish...the front rotors easily pop off when you take off the caliper(which has to come off to do the pads) and then the rears are not really too difficult either...My opinion...either do it yourself or get another estimate...maybe there's an out of work backyard maechanic on your street you can give the job to..or if your in the indiana area...call me ...i'd be happy to do the work for ya 2196972613jeffrey

I have a squealing/screeching noise at my right front wheel area. Cop stopped my daughter with a warning to get it fixed. It's a 2001 S10. Could this be the brakes? It stops when the brakes are...

Brake pads may be worn to the point where the warning indicators are touching down onto the rotor. It's usually a metal strip that rubs on the rotor when the pad wears to the limits, causing a screeching noise as a warning. It'd be easy enough to check by just removing the wheel and inspecting the pads to see. Take it to a mechanic if you're unable to check it yourself.

Rear brakes screeches

you will be needing to replace the brake pads very soon. the pads have a metal tab mounted to them that will actually make contact with the brake rotor when the pads wear to a certain point...this makes a loud screech everytime you brake, and sometimes when you dont, to let the driver know that the brake pads are worn out.

Screeching noise coming from driver side tire

The high pitch sound may come from the brake pads as metal parts hit the disc to signal the owner that it needs change. The metal parts gets exposed when the pads have worn out. The brake also has a hub to cover the disc. See if the metal plate is hitting it but this issue would appear when the wheels are in motion. Check if it is the belts, have the tension checked out. Other than that the bearings are the other items on your wheel that could cause a high pitched sound when you car is in motion.
