I had that problem too but it ended up being the vent valve. It's a part that goes with emissions. It's the part of the car that when you drive it this vent closes and recirculates the emissions and when the car is shut off, it opens up to keep it ventilated. I'm having it repaired for $250.00 in New Bedford, MA. Hope this helps!

Smell gas outside occasionally

if you smell gas. the service engine soon light should be on. It may be several things, parts of EVAP system, but I would look at the top of the fuel tank. Nissan has campaign on fuel tanks, where they replace the sending unit, but if the tank is corroder beyond repair aka getting re-sealed, then Nissan will replace your tank for FREEEEEEEEEE along with the sending unit. Just go to your local Nissan dealer and have them run you r VIN number to see if you have campaigns on you r truck. You may also have the lower steering shaft campaign. have your VIN checked. start there.

My xterra shows code 463. The fuel gauge is not working right. What should I be checking? Do I have to remove the gas tank to repair it?

Put--- ( nissan recalls & problems) --- in your search engine

You won't like what you read

The dealer may replace the sending unit, as all fuel
tanks are deformed ,all radiators leak, etc, not good

The service engine soon light for my (2005 Nissan xterrra) is on. I know the problem it is the fuel level sensor in the gas tank. I do not want to fix it. How can I turn the warning light off. I assume ...

There is no fuse to remove, this is computer controlled, you can use a scan tool to reset check engine light or remove a battery terminal for 5 minutes, the only problem is the computer is always testing all sensors and systems so the light will come right back on, this will make you fail an emmisions test, try reseting and see how long it take to come back but it will come back on, also check the ground wire on the frame from the sendind/fuel pump module. hope this helps.

2005 Nissan Xterra gas gauge reads empty when full of gas.

Sending unit died. can be expencive to replace since most sending units are integral with the fuel pump now. lots of labor too. Better to use the trip odometer till you can afford a day without your car and a $600.00 +labor repair bill.

Fuel Gage reading E after I Fill up.

The fuel level sending unit is bad. Part is $90 from dealer. You can replace it yourself and save $500 from stealership. Drop gas tank and remove fuel pump. Sending unit is attached to fuel pump.

Fuel Gage reading E after I Fill up.

the problem would be that of the fuel gauge which in newer models are mounted in the fuel tank, or the fuse for the gauges are burnt out, or there is a loose connection
