Question about 2004 Pontiac Aztek

1 Answer

2004 Pontiac Aztek has been through a new battery that actually did have problems and has now drained another new battery. Alternator has tested as good and starter works well. Any help would be appreciated. I can not afford a repair bill

Battery light

The warning light means the alternator is not charging the battery. The problem could be in the wiring for the alternator. Have you checked alternator output on the car ?

Has your alternator belt broken or alternator not charging the batteries? Check amps output from the alternator aswell it maybe undercharging them. Make sure all battery connections and earths are clean and their mounting points are clean. Is it the correct battery for the car?

Dodge truck battery drains overnight. new battery installed

Seen this "mystery drain" many times. Check spark at the battery to see how big the drain is. For this simple test, blow away any (explosive) battery charging fumes. Leave one terminal on and gently touch the other to its post in fairly dark surroundings. Then try it again with the wires taken off the alternator. Your spark is now probably much less. Usually bad diodes leaking electricity backwards through the alternator cause this drain. Replace the alternator or the diode pack inside it. Some mechanics recommend actually measuring the drain.... hahaha. OK whatever.
