It sounds like a bad earth connection in the vehicle rear wiring loom. Check the earth wire that runs from the globe sockets in the light units and any connectors in the wiring loom near the light assemblies as well as where the earth wire is attached to the body. If necessary, remove, clean thoroughly by removing any corrosion or paint and re-attach securely.

Troubleshooting tail lights that stay on after switch is turned off.

More than likely the "multi-function" switch is bad. It is actually the turn signal, headlamp lever which is affixed to the switch which is located in the steering column.

2001 ford sport trac no brake lights

Just had same issue with my 01 sport trac. Just purchased truck an never noticed until several days later had no tail lights. Brake light on cab worked not on bed. After days of head banging an scratching I realized when steering wheel was tilted up had lights down no lights tore into steering column was an easy easy fix. The clip tht holds harness in place on top of cold was broke an plug had slid out a bit so pushed it in good an tight zip tied it for temp fix vuala tail lights! Wanted to share so if anyone else has issue they didn't have to spend days scratching their head!

The tail lights work but the turn signal and brake light on the right don,t

blown bulbs,, :) replace the bulbs of it was a fuse you would have a lot more lights not working, was it a bad harness none of the lights on that harness would work so the problem is the bulbs, replace the bulbs.

2001 Explorer Sport ,Rear Driver Brake Light and Turn Sig. Broke

Rear lights are double filament bulbs one side for the lights other side for the brake/turn signals so it still may be a bulb. Do u have a test light or volt meter you can check to make sure u have power there when brakes or turn signals are activated. Or just try another bulb.
