Turning ignition key will not start the car. There is power to everything, but the engine won't turn over. It doesn't even try to. I have to jiggle the key repeatedly while turning it or turn it only slightly and eventually, the car starts. I thought it could be the starter, but could it be with the ignition?

2008 Jeep Liberty

Possible solution - This happened to me and my battery was dead in my key fob and also I needed an ignition switch because a piece on it was broken which therefore wouldn't turn to start the engine.

Why won't my ignition key turn over and my steering wheel is locked in place at the sametime?

I'm assuming you mean your key wont turn in the ignition. first off check to make sure the car is in park. then what you gotta do is put in the key and put a little pressure as if turning but dont turn too hard, then even though the steering wheel is locked you will have to try to move it a little, if you parked with your tires turned then you will want to try to turn the wheel in the same direction, (even locked you should be able to move it about a half inch) you will have to turn the wheel hard but it should move enough to allow the key to turn, you may have to jiggle the key a little in the ignition but it should eventually turn, just remember not to try turning the key too hard, the extra force wont make it go but can cause the key to break. this tends to happen when you turn the car off andthe steering wheel gets locked if the wheels are turned hard in either direction. also if multiple attempts at this still dont work, try taking the key out and turning it over and trying again. Even though both sides of the key are identicle, because of wear on the key and the ignition, sometimes when the wheel locks the ignition, it will only turn if the key is put in a certain way. Hope this helps, good luck

Stuck eldorado key in DTS ignition now car won't start

Make sure your steering wheel isn't locked. Sometimes a key won't turn until you jiggle the wheel while trying to turn the key.

Ignition to tight and key will not turn.

Try turning the steering wheel while you turn the ignition key.

sometimes the linkage that locks your steering wheel puts pressure on the switch mechanisum and keeps it from turning

Hope Its this simple!

1995 toyota .my dashlights and intreior light do not work.had starter replaced .problem started then

assuming the battery is good. if none of the dash light come on while the key is in the ignition and it turn to on position, check fuse and relay and ignition systems. see if you can play with with ignition systems by jiggle and wiggle turning the key back and forth start the engine and see if you get any contact. all dash light has to come on when the key is turn to on position, if not you have no power to ECU. ecu turn on everything from your fuel pump and the sparks. hope that help some

Ignition problem

You've tried pulling steering wheel hard from one side to the other while turning key? Always try to avoid shutting vehicle off with wheels turned, keep straight when turning off. Are you parking on a sloped drive by chance? If yes, press hard on brake pedal when trying to turn key, if no luck, try rocking car forward ,back, while trying to turn key.
