code p0496 refers to evaporative emission system--high purge flow===causes--wiring--EVAP valve--mechanical fault
check that the cap is on tight
change the purge valve.
Look for a small green cap on the valve under the hood,off to the side near the inner fender,possibly driver side,has a wire connector on it & hose going to intake manifold or vacuum source
Check the gas cap,also,it could mean the evap system is not working,or you have run out of gas recently,if all this checks out ok,then the tank is not venting properly.
