The hard shifting you are experiencing is caused by slight wear in the valve body in the transmission. It doesnt mean your tranny is bad though. This hard shift will only usually occur when the transmission temp reaches 93 degrees. So you could rebuild the valve body or sometimes a tranny flush is a temp fix.

I am having the exact same issue. I came off the highway after a long drive and it shifted very hard from 1st to second. Parked it for twenty minutes, and it drove fine. It has happened once since. What did you end up fixing or to what extent did you go? Thank you ahead of time.

This may sound silly, but when was the last fuel filter? If you have a partial fuel retriction, it could seem as though the trans has issues. The more you drive, the more the pressure could decrease, causing strange shift issues. Thanks...

I dont think the fuel filter is the problem. I have 2000 silverado and mine shifts hard at times in first and second and then goes away. I just changed my fuel filter two months ago and it still does it. I think it may be an electronic glitch coming from the tow/haul switch on the shifter.

I have a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado with automatic transmission. When the transmission is shifting from first to second gear it jerks really hard like a thrust when changing.

have it scanned, probably has a code 1870 (transmission component slipping)
means torgue converter is slipping beyond specs, actual casue is valve body is wore out causing pressure problems

I have 1997 chevy Z-71 sometimes on startup the engine makes a knocking sound for about 3 seconds and goes away. I dont know if I have a major problem or not can you help?

I think it is normal for these vehicles. My '97 Tahoe did it also and I'd heard it was normal and not to be worried about. Kind of sucks but I had 150,000 miles on mine and it was fine.

Good luck.

99 silverado 1500 shifts hard after its been driven a while

u need to have the system tested for trouble codes, but u most likely have a defective trans 1-2 shift solenoid. to replace this u will need to pull the trans pan off the solenoids are attached to the valve body, also check the trans connector for water or corrosion.

Once truck is started if i drive it has a lag

I would have the computer scanned ( no SERVICE LIGHTS right ? ) looking for an errant coolant sensor not telling the computer to give your vehicle a bit RICHER ( a little bit more fuel ), since it does start. Just has POOR cold drive away. Hope this helps

1999 Grand Cherokee cold shifting problem

What is happening is your loosing pressure at the front servo. The seal round it is swelling up as it warms up and the problem goes away. The best fix is to rebuild the transmission. If that is not in the budget, there are some cheaper solutions. First you could add some trans tune. Any parts store will have some variation of it. If that does'nt work a very small amount (a cap full or so) of brake fluid should. It will cause the seals to swell. I would recommend, after adding brake fluid, having the transmission flushed after driving the truck 50-100 miles. Hope this helps.
